About the performance

WIRED is an interdisciplinary dance and music performance focused on rhythm, soul and emancipation. It is developed and performed by an international and intergenerational cast with powerful personalities, masterful skill sets and educated points of view. It’s centered around the relation between music and dance as intelligent languages that carry the wisdom of Black traditions.

The title refers to the drum which connects the global diaspora with various expressions over oceans of time.

The international and intergenerational cast creates the soundtrack live on stage, featuring electronic drums in genres such as Broken Beat, House and Hip Hop music. This is delivered through live beat-making, poetry, and body percussion. Gritty bass lines are balanced with melodies and soulful vocals, celebrating soul and the feminine qualities of Black culture, taking the audience on an uninterrupted journey into the depths of the underground.

We find ourselves in the intimate atmosphere of a good underground club, where the lighting is dim and warm, where the darkness feels safe, and a shared love for music is everything. In the ecstasy, we find ourselves, each other, and the spiritual reality that our human experience is rooted in.

2

We don’t just move to the music; we move because of it. Here, we find peace.

Here, we can laugh, cry, grind, and express ourselves freely, however and whenever we feel like it. Here, we witness each other’s experiences and understand the unspoken.

Our joy is our revolution. Our vulnerability is a strength. Essential being is valued over sensational presentations.

“Music is life, that’s why our hearts have beats. Add some percussion, some strings, put bells on your feet.

Rock to this track, Jack into the deep. Vibe to the tune of truth, radical love will set us free.”

Josephin Bovien (DK/GH/UK)

Josephin Bovién (DK/GH/UK) is an energetic explorer based in Århus and the visual front woman for the feminist portrait series “50/50” about gender equality in the Danish music industry, which this year has been declared a Danish cultural heritage.

At the age of 3 Josephin immersed herself in the performing arts through ballet dance. However, when rejected to study at The Royal Academy of Ballet (DK), she turned her poetic passion strictly to music. As an independent vocalist, songwriter, electronic composer, spoken word artist, music producer, and bandleader, she has crafted productions and critically acclaimed concerts of a particularly experimental and ethereal nerve, which has swayed in genres such as minimalistic RnB, Neo-soul, Funk, Afro House, and Free Jazz.

Today, her artistic service centers on ceremonial performance art and improvisation of what she humbly defines as universal folk music. With ambient soundscapes, organic percussive elements, and improvised songs, Josephin lets her passion for embodying the intuitive and vulnerable journey of the present propagate itself into our collective body and invites us to merge with the pulsating soil of Mother Earth, where life expands, time spirals, and spiritual surrender equals collective liberation. Through WIRED she explores her connection to the African diaspora and reawakens her innate passion for dance.
