On My Tongue delves into the sensorial practices that navigate the fragile terrain of consent, companionship, and politics of touch. Within an uncanny universe of opposing forces — where desire confronts fear and melancholia meets euphoria — it questions intimacy, trust and the role of the senses, and how we relate to ourselves and each other in increasingly complex ways. The four performers engage in a seductive and charged dance while negotiating their relationships with each other’s bodies. Contradictions linger in the air as bodies and voices oscillate between domination and surrender, between resistance and embrace. With a sharp eye for paradox and a touch of humor, On My Tongue creates space for emotional loops and glitches in both music and movement, unraveling the intricate ambivalences of touching and being touched.
On My Tongue is a new choreographic work by Emilie Gregersen, developed and performed together with Paolo de Venecia Gile, Sigrid Stigsdatter Mathiassen, and Luisa Fernanda Alfonso. It is the final piece in Emilie Gregersen’s Touch Trilogy, following Caresses (2021) and Touch (2020). The trilogy is a prism of works that explores a phenomenological understanding of touch, with each work offering aesthetic experiences and poetic reflection on how touch shapes our engagement with the world and each other.
Emilie Gregersen (b. 1993, DK) (they/them, she/her) is an artist, choreographer and dancer working between Copenhagen and Berlin, and a co-founding member of Dance Cooperative. In their choreographic practice, Emilie Gregersen, works at the intersection between practise-based choreography and hyper performance. She combines multiple choreographic layers speaking to different senses and planes of consciousness; both the logic that wants to find concept and meaning, as well as the bodily and aesthetic experience that devotes itself into sensory navigation. She works with a high scale of performativity, where everything from gaze to gesture is performed with a heightened attentiveness that aims to create a hypersensitivity in both performer and viewer. Emilie’s artistic work is driven by sensorial practices and questions around intimacy, power dynamics and the use of the senses. Through the uncanny, the erotic and the cringe, she playfully works with distortion of images and movements to challenge binary perceptions and narratives.
