WELCOME TO NEW SH*T VOL. 7
August 2023
We have the pleasure of having Escarleth Romo Pozo as guest curator of this edition New Sh*t Vol. 7. Here is how Escarleth presents the curation:
Gestures of love (desire and contemplation) Sensuality and soft tension. Sensuality as something elastic, tensile, that washes away the border between giver and receiver. Super subtle. Desire not as static, one sided, or binary. Sensuality as multifaceted, multidimensional and as a ceaseless force and tool for listening and sharing spaces. Desire as a soft malleable matter, as boundless resistance that we rest in rather than chase. To linger in sensation while opening up accessibility to multiple layers of being in tune with yourself, the space and others beyond a hegemonic ‘common sense.’
How I chose the works
I could compare the experiencing of powerful works as the process of falling in love. It pushes you out of your comfort zone and it is not only about what you see in front of you, but how it is making you aware of what is going on inside of you. All the light as well as dark places. A sensation that reminds you of your corners and edges, and the possibility of letting worlds pass through you. You might not like that feeling of loosing control that yielding into that kind of falling is, but if you allow it to, it moves you. And thus it shifts how you are with the world and maybe, even gives you a glimpse of other ones.

LOUNGE

The word Lounge is both a verb and a noun: an action of sitting or lying in a relaxed way or a public room where people may relax. This dual nature of resting is at the heart of this duet for two female-identifying bodies. Together they move through states of active and passive rest, using each other’s presence to go deeper into themselves and the vibe. Permeating the piece is the notion of the invisible lap dance, consisting of small, nearly imperceptible dances that use the gaze to blur the borders between the giver and receiver. By relying on erotics and building togetherness, Lounge taps into the comfort of rest as an active claim of womanhood.

About Marga Alfeirão
Marga Alfeirão (Portugal) uses dance and performance to carve spaces for the exploration of intimacy and sexuality. Heavily influenced by dance genres and sound textures from the African diaspora disseminated through Lisbon’s social tissue, she attempts an active claim of womanhood, making room for lesbian sensualities.

In 2023 Marga premiered LOUNGE at TanzTage, a lap dance duet.
Last year with Camila Malenchini, they premiered Wet Eyez, a work on
emotional bodies and fantasy. Marga performs for Tamara Alegre. Marga is active in the Portuguese Ballroom scene as a founding member of the Casa das Musas. In Berlin, Marga started COYOTE PRETTY UGLY, an act to entertain the lesbian queer evenings of the city. Graduating from HZT’s BA in dance and choreography in Berlin (2017-21), Marga initiated Lapdances to Ringtones and Lullabies, research on erotics and rest. Together with her collaborator Camila Malenchini, they are developing a new work on horror, paralysis, womanhood, and myth to premiere in 2024.

The multimedia live performance installation piece unfolds an everyday performative practice of black queer erotic consciousness through rituals, phantasmagoria, and archiving as embodied care practices.
Two sculptures of obsidian raw stone companions ignite an autoerotic desire and contemplation. The sculptures are further combined with animated objects and poetic visuals on film regarding ghostly presences, rebirths of self, and caring bodily interviews conducted in Dakar, Senegal. The performers draw symbols in their movements repeatedly, backwards, attempting to trigger echoes of remembrance, active mourning and (re)birth within atemporal, multidimensional timelines. The work schemes connections between altered forms of fugitivity, the shapeshifter body, and nature enacting spaces in which “separability becomes dissolved” (Da Silva, Denise) in non-linear time. Imagination is called upon as a love gesture guiding us into remembrance.

TALK & DJ
TALK: Rest, Erotics & Ruptures
Curator Escarleth Romo Pozo will right after the performances invite the artists back on stage and have a small talk where the audiences will get more knowledge about their work and their practices.

DJ Shaka Lion
After the performance program and talk we invite you back in the foyer where DJ Shaka Lion will be playing.
Luso-Brazilian DJ Shaka Lion is the perfect demonstration of an outside look at the internationalism of dub - outernationalism - a Brazilian who grew up in Barreiro. the itinerary of his sets is always pinpointed with classic references, reframed in contemporary edits or remixes. In addition to his dub way, we hear emotional soul, hip hop, stargazing jazz brazilian grooves and global club beats. He connects musical worlds from his ancestry and upbringing with cities like Paris, London and Berlin.
Photo Christian BremsAbout guest curator Escarleth Romo Pozo
Escarleth Romo Pozo is a performer and maker. She was born in Managua, Nicaragua and has been living and working in Sweden, The UK, Belgium, Switzerland and currently Denmark. She has been freelancing across Europe for this last decade and is currently attentive to how the social world could be engaged in processes of deand re-contextualizing the world that we inhabit and that inhabits us, not believing and remaining in already existing essentialisms. Requiring imagination which bears with the unknown and takes our relational interdependency into account. A speculative attitude and pleasure in engaging in that which we still not know of. Unravel the invisible forces that bring us together or make us fall apart.
About the platform New Sh*t

VELKOMMEN TIL NEW SH*T VOL. 7
August 2023
Vi har fornøjelsen af at have Escarleth Romo Pozo som gæstekurator for New Sh*t Vol. 7.
Escarleth præsenterer her kurateringen:

udført i Dakar, Senegal.

TALK & DJ
TALK: Rest, Erotics & Ruptures
Kurator Escarleth Romo Pozo

Om platformen New Sh*t
Siden Dansehallerne lancerede New Sh*t i 2020, har den populære platform fundet sted to gange årligt.
