2019 Dodge County Fair Your Ticket To Summer Fun! Enjoy the Rides on the Midway Kids young and old will enjoy rides on the midway throughout the Dodge County Fair. Each day boasts ticket specials, including discounted and unlimited rides during special times. The rides are from A&P Enterprise Shows.

Regular ticket prices are $1.25 each for single tickets, or 20 tickets for $20 (a savings of $5.) Most rides require three or more tickets per person.

Wednesday offers Wristband Day on the Midway where fair goers can purchase a wristband for $25 for unlimited rides from 1-8 p.m.

Thursday is Kids Day, where $20 will buy youngsters a wristband for unlimited rides between 1-5 p.m.

2019 Dodge County Fair Dodge County Fair Offers Live Music, Food And Family Fun The Dodge County Fair offers live music, a top-notch dairy-state focused food selection and educational family fun. The fairgrounds are family-friendly and the events schedule offers something for all ages.

The fair kicks-off on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 18. The Dodge County Fairgrounds, located three miles east of Beaver Dam on Highway 33, presents an experience which allows fair-goers the chance to enjoy a wide range of activities.

Fair admission will include parking, as well as all of the live entertainment. Gate admission is $7 before 12 p.m. and $10 after 12 p.m. Children ages nine and younger are admitted free. Season tickets are $27 before August 14, and $35 thereafter.

With a season pass, attendees can experience all five days of the fair. Tickets are available at most Dodge County banks, Recheks Food

Pride, Beaver Dam Piggly Wiggly and at the fairgrounds office.

“Come join in the 2019 edition of the Dodge County Fair. You’ll see much that is new and different this year and all those who work to stage this annual event want you to enjoy it, as you relax and visit,” stated the fair’s board of directors.

A huge tractor pull followed by three nights of national touring artist concerts will entertain country and rock fans.

Two demolition derbies, and a horse, tractor and truck pulls at the grandstand will add to the excitement.

Features for kids and families throughout the week include a 4-H Fish Pond, Nick’s Kids Show, Kiddie Pedal Pull and Wild World of Animals, along with much more.

The festivities go into motion on Wednesday morning with judging of exhibits occurring in the Open Class Building, Farm Progress Arena, Youth Building, Sheep

Barn and Under the Grandstand.

Wednesday night, live entertainment begins with the Badger State Tractor Pull at 7 p.m.

The Fairest of the Fair is also presented on Wednesday, at 5 p.m., on the WTKM stage.

On Thursday night, the legendary country act Sawyer Brown will hit the stage at 8 p.m.

Throughout the day, there will be fun-filled activities for all ages.

Thursday is Senior Citizens Day with free bingo from 1-4:00 p.m.

It is also Kid’s Day on the Midway, featuring discounted and unlimited rides from 1-5 p.m. with the purchase of a $20 wristband. Regular ride prices will be in effect from 5 p.m. to close.

A variety of events will be going on in Radio Park, and there will be exhibit judging happening in the Youth Building, Farm Progress Arena and Small Animal Building.

Sawyer Brown by local youth during the annual Meat Animal Sale held in the Farm Progress Arena at 7 p.m. Music will be provided within the grounds on the Radio Park Stage by the Madpolecats from 9:15 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Friday will be Wristband Day with unlimited rides on the midway from 12-5 p.m. for $25.

There will also be a kids pedal tractor pull at 11:30 a.m., additional judging and showmanship competitions, and the WXRO Barn Show and Celebrity Cream Puff Eating Contest from 5-6:45 p.m.

Friday will be capped off with live music entertainment by LANCO on the main stage from 89:30 p.m. while the band makes a stop in Beaver Dam on its international tour. Fans may recognize LANCO’s hit singles “Long Live Tonight” and “Born to Love You.” “The Ranch” fans may recognize “Greatest Love Story” from the popular Netflix series.

The hit reached Number One in 2017 on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts.

Music by DJ Jeff Hall will begin at 9 p.m. in the Legion Beer Pavilion.

On the Radio Park Stage, FM Rodeo will perform from 9:15-11:30 p.m. v Saturday is Family Day on the Midway from noon to 5 p.m., where families can enjoy halfpriced ride tickets.

Check out the horse and tractor pulls, junior fair cat and kitten judging, Nick’s Kid Show and the Wild World of Animals throughout the afternoon and evening.

The Supreme Showmanship competition, from 7-8 p.m., will feature top junior and senior showmen of dairy, beef, sheep and swine projects.

Saturday night will conclude with music powerhouse Great White and glam rock sensation Slaughter rocking the main stage at 8 p.m. Music by Alexis will be at the Radio Park Stage from 5-8 p.m. and again from 9:15-11:30 p.m.

Demolition Derbies will be held at 1 and 6 p.m.

Cars, vans and trucks crash the day away in front of the main grandstand as competitors work to qualify for the evening’s main event.

At 1 p.m., the Little Bunny Huddle Showmanship competition will take place in the small animal building. The contest is open to youngsters between grade 4K and fourth grade interested in the experience.

At 1:30 p.m., the Little Britches Showmanship Contest takes place in the Farm Progress Arena just North of the Open Class Exhibit Building.

The main event takes place in the grandstands from 6-8 p.m. with the Jerry Paulus – Action Auto Demo Derby championship in the car, truck and van divisions.

Senior Citizen Open Class Judging Scheduled On Wednesday Afternoon Judging for entries submitted in the Open Class Senior Citizen exhibits will happen on Wednesday, August 14, from 2-3 p.m., in the Open Class Exhibit Building.

First, second, third and fourth places will be awarded in each category. Exhibitors and fair goers are invited to sit and watch the judging process.

The senior citizen department is limited to exhibitors 62 years of age or older.

It has four divisions: cultural arts, woodworking, knitting and crocheting and home furnishings.

Cultural Arts includes categories such as watercolor and ceramics, among others. Woodworking features options for bird houses, toys and both indoor and outdoor items. Knitting and Crocheting has about a dozen different categories between the two, and Home Furnishings boasts four classes with a combined total of more than 30 categories.

Badger State Tractor Pull Kicks-Off Free Evening Entertainment The first evening of the 2019 Dodge County Fair will feature three hours of non-stop entertainment when the Badger State Tractor Pullers (BSTP) feature approximately 75 competitors during the annual Badger State tractor pull.

The exciting, three-hour event begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, opening night of the Fair. This will be the third consecutive year BSTP is holding the competition at the Fair. Many BSTP members are among the best competitors in the nation and this promises to be a thrilling event for seasoned and new “pull� fans – across two tracks.

Pulling is a thrilling competition to see which driver can pull the sled the farthest distance on a dirt track. The track is typically 300 feet in distance, with boundaries set on each side. Participants are disqualified if the line is touched.

After each attempt, the distance is measured and recorded. “Pull offs� take place when a participant travels beyond 300 feet. Fans can cheer on their favorite competitors and vehicles from the stands and get quite competitive during the measurements and these pull-offs.

Vehicles will push more than 25 mph, pulling sleds weighing approximately 40,000 pounds. Tractors will top more than 3,000 HP and diesel trucks will be exceeding more than 2,000 HP on the track.

Contenders will feature various pro stock tractors and some of the top-running diesel trucks in the country. Each class will include 10-20 competitors from all over the Midwest.

Classes competing include Pro-stock Tractor, Limited Prostock Tractor, 540 Light Pro Tractor, Super Farm, Light Limited Super Stock Tractor, and Limited Pro Diesel Truck.

Final interviews and the crowning of the 2019 Fairest of the Fair will take place at the fair on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 5 p.m.

Three Women Compete For Fairest Of The Fair 2019 Three area women are running for the title of 2019 Dodge County Fairest of the Fair.

The applicants finished their first round of interviews at the annual Dodge County Fair Press Banquet on July 8, held at Bayside Supper Club in Beaver Dam. At the event,

the women took part in individual and group interviews, as well as presented commercials they prepared for the 132nd Dodge County Fair to be held from August 14-18.

The 2018 Dodge County Fairest of the Fair, Haley Justmann, met with contestants at

the interview and spoke at the banquet. Justmann is a Juneau native and a graduate of the University of MinnesotaTwin Cities. She shares fond memories of growing up at the Dodge County Fair.

“The Dodge County Fair was the highlight of the summer. While at-

tending the fair each year, watching the Fairest of the Fair contest was often at the top of my list,” said Justmann.

Justman, 20, is the daughter of Gail and Mark Justman of Mayville. Krista is a college sophomore attending Fox Valley Technical College. She aspires to be the Dodge County Fairest of the Fair to be a role model for other girls who may not be like everyone else. She is a member of the Lomira Clover Leaves 4-H club and enjoys volunteering at St. Peter’s Church.

Judging the Dodge County Fairest of the Fair competition this year are: Sandra Budewitz Budewitz is the owner of Sandra D’s Bridal Boutique located in downtown Watertown.

When Sandra isn’t busy at her shop, you will find her spending time with her husband, volunteering at community events or working on creating new events for the downtown as part of the Main Street program.

Ferron, 20, is the daughter of Todd and Tracy Ferron of Beaver Dam. Kennedy is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Her goal is to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in animal science with an emphasis in beef cattle or livestock. She aspires to have a career as either an artificial insemination technician or a livestock nutritionist.

Ferron has shown cattle for many years as a member of the Burnett 4-H club.

Kendra Gillett Fall River Gillett, 18, is the daughter of Kenn and Dana Gillett of Fall River. Kendra is a high school graduate and will be attending UW-Madison in the fall. Her goal is to attend the UWMadison Veterinarian School and one day open up her own vet

Jim Mielke Mielke of Beaver Dam is the Dodge County administrator. He was appointed to the position in January 2008 and began his duties in September that year. Jim has served as a judge for the Fairest of the Fair program in years past and is a strong supporter of the program.

Linda Chipman Chipman, of Beaver Dam is the owner-operator at Chippy’s Popcorn Creations in Beaver Dam along with her husband, Scott. Chippy’s began in 2002 and has since grown to be a staple brand in Beaver Dam and surrounding communities. This is Linda’s first year serving as a judge and she looks forward to the opportunity to serve the community.

Final interviews and the crowning of the 2019 Dodge County Fairest of the Fair will take place at the Fair on August 14 at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast live on WTKM Radio.

2019 Dodge County Fair Dodge County Fair Celebrates 132 Years Of History The Dodge County Fair celebrates 132 continuous years this season.

The fair as it exists today originated in downtown Beaver Dam and fairgoers filled the streets in masses to attend what was known as “The World’s Greatest County Fair,” according to Beaver Dam area historian Roger Noll.

In the mid-1800s, stock fairs were held throughout the area with the intention of marketing animals, crops and produce. Those undercurrents still run through county fairs today.

Paired with youth education, the fair still centers around an agricultural focus.

The first gathering resembling a fair took place soon after Dodge County was established.

The county was created from the Wisconsin Territory in 1836 and organized in 1844.

In 1853, the Dodge County Agricultural Society was organized. Its main goal was to hold a fair, which it did successfully for two years in Juneau, the county seat.

In December of 1866, a group of citizens formed the Beaver Dam Agricultural, Mechanical and Stock Association with the goal of creating and maintaining a fairgrounds and a race course. They purchased 21 acres of land for $1,700.

That land, located where Wayland Academy is today, has come to be known as the birthplace of the Dodge County Fair.

The Dodge County Fair has attracted many people over the years. In 1902, it was reported 70,000 people attended the fair. Special trains ran from Chicago to Milwaukee and the streets of Beaver Dam were jammed with people.

Over the years the fair has hosted balloon ascensions and parachute jumps, airplane rides, daredevil acts and harness racing.

The original location boasted a grandstand that could hold 4,800 people during horse racing events. Spectators reportedly could see the feet of the race horses at any time during the race.

A subway was built under the race track in 1911 to allow patrons to get from one side of the track to the other.

A new grandstand was constructed in 1921 for $50,000. That grandstand was destroyed in a blaze in the spring of 1958. Children playing with matches beneath the empty grandstand started a fire that lasted only 15 minutes, but destroyed the grandstand and several surrounding

buildings.

Officers of the fair association met the night of the fire and decided to go ahead with the 1958 fair just a few months later under large tents.

The fair was also held on the cleaned-up site in 1959 and 1960.

In October of 1959, the fair board was authorized to sell the fairgrounds to Wayland Academy for $125,000 and to purchase the Knaup-Stegner property

along state Highway 33, east of Beaver Dam. The 1961 Dodge County Fair was held at the new site with a precast cement grandstand, five cattle barns, well, toilets, track, fence, race horse barn and two commercial buildings.

The fairgrounds, which covers 60 acres, grew with the addition of several other buildings.

The Farm Progress Arena was built in 1965 when the county hosted

the former Farm Progress Days. The livestock building was constructed in 1983, a commercial building was added in 1989 and a pre-cast cement grandstand and stage were constructed in 1990.

Additional buildings and facilities have been added in recent years, and the fair continues to draw crowds upwards of 50,000 when the weather cooperates.

Great White and Slaughter Grandstand Stage

The grandstands will be filled with thousands of rock music fans on Saturday night when rock music powerhouse Great White performs, followed by glam rock sensation Slaughter.

Both groups will perform at the fair for their first times. Great White

will perform at 8 p.m., with Slaughter to follow after a brief intermission.

Great White’s “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” is a 1990 Grammy-nominated Best Hard Rock Performance sensation.

Fans will also recognize “Rock Me,” “Mista Bone” and dozens of other hits.

The band has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide and has had two platinum albums and nine Top 200 Billboard albums throughout its career. In 2012, Great White released its twelfth studio album, “Elation”.

Slaughter’s first

album, “Stick It To Ya,” reached double platinum status in the United States. Slaughter hard rock fans will sing along to “Up All Night”, “Spend My Life” and “Fly to the Angels.” All three hits reached the Billboard Hot 100 list.

Jerry Paulus – Action Auto Demo Derby at Grandstand

Demo Derby Provides Action On Sunday The Jerry Paulus – Action Auto Demo Derby will be held on Sunday, August 18, at 1-4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The event is free with paid gate admission.

Fans will fill the grandstands at 1 p.m. for the first of two demo derbies held on the final day of the fair.

Spectators will oooh and ahhh as cars, trucks and vans crash it out to qualify for the evening’s main event.

To enter for competition contact the event organizer, Action Auto Promotions, located in Milton.

Who will be the demo derby champion in the car, truck and van divisions?

Cheer on local drivers in the grandstands at 6 p.m, during the evening derby – the main event – where crews and drivers work to make minor repairs and prepare throughout the infield pit area.

Little Bunny Huddle Showmanship Contest Take time to attend the Little Bunny Huddle Showmanship Contest on Sunday, Aug. 18, from 1-2 p.m. in the Small Animal Building.

The contest is open to anyone between grades 4K and 4th grade interested in the experience of showing rabbits. Bunnies can be a pure breed, mixed breed or a pet. Registration required.

Contestants demonstrate their showmanship abilities with face-to-face judging followed by distribution of participation ribbons.

Radio Park Stage Offers Late Night Entertainment The Radio Park Stage, located just behind the grandstands, will be full of free musical entertainment throughout the Dodge County Fair.

Thursday, August 15, will offer entertainment provided by the Madpolecats from 9:15-11:30 p.m.

From Madison, the Madpolecats unique form of entertainment was developed by fusing together traditional bluegrass instruments with reggae, ska and punk influences, making rastabilly music, or skunkgrass.

This family band has an arsenal of instruments and is made up of musicians who have played together at roadhouse bars, churches, music festivals, concert halls, fund raising events, benefits, weddings, wakes and some of the best street corners in Wisconsin.

Friday night boasts music by FM Rodeo from 9:15-11:30 p.m. This new, young group of musicians with roots in Milwaukee, will perform from many of the artists people have known to love. Group members are Adam Fettig on vocals and guitar; Anna Zaleski on vocals, fiddle and mandolin; Tony Piontek on lead guitar; Zak Dowlding on bass; and Josh Rudolph on drums.

Saturday, August 17, brings music by Alexis from 9:15-11:30 p.m.

Local band Alexis entertains classic rock fans by continuing to pound out classic rock gems from yesterday, last week Thursday and the hard rockin’ ‘70s.

One listen to Alexis is all the evidence audiences need to separate them from any other band, as they realize that they do not simply play the music, they feel it, and they live it. Come live some rock today! From Randolph are Sandy (Muenchow) Hautamaki, Al Muenchow, Jim Muenchow and Tom Muenchow.

Nick’s Kids Show Provides New Entertainment Series For Families At 2019 Dodge County Fair

Nick’s Kids Show will be providing three family-friendly shows daily at this year’s Dodge County Fair.

Shows will take place on the family stage near the Midway at various times throughout the day. A full listing of scheduled times is available on the Dodge County Fairgrounds website.

Nick’s Kids Show replaces the Kandu Magic show, which provided approximately 20 years of family-friendly entertainment at the fair. Jef and Jill Eaton recently retired in 2018.

The new format, sponsored by Kwik Trip, will provide an entertaining show for the entire family. Though the per-

formance is geared towards children ages three to 12 years, parents as well as younger and older siblings will enjoy participating. This free show promises to be entertaining for everyone who attends.

Nick and his lineup travel the Midwest and the southern United States, including Florida. The show is also traveling to other local festivals throughout Wisconsin this summer.

The entertainment group initially got its start as an oldies genre band.

Nick later started his traveling, family-friendly routine 15 years ago, when he saw the need for children’s musical entertainment at local fairs and venues. His shows have transformed

over time and now include a diverse setting of participation and entertainment through music, games, play, fun and learning opportunities.

Children are invited to participate both from the crowd and on stage, as a member of Nick’s rock ‘n roll band. Children (and their parents) will have the opportunity to play the drums, guitars and sing along to their favorite kid-friendly tunes – like the Rubber Duckie song.

Audience members will be invited to participate in the Locomotion, freeze dance, hula hoop contests and so many other popular dances which will get the entire family out of their seats and moving.
