Kids Will Be Busy During Audubon Days

Mayville’s annual Audubon Days festival has plenty of activities for the kids from Friday, Oct. 7 to Sunday, Oct. 9.

On Friday evening, area youth are invited to attend the youth dance with DJ Express at St. Marys School, from 7-9:30 p.m.

On Saturday morning, kids ages 12 and under can jump start their day

with a 1K race, beginning at 10 a.m.

At 10 a.m., the 1K kids race for those 12 years old and younger will start.

Trophies and medals will be awarded.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be craft fun at the craft tent at Foster Park. Kids will have the chance to make something special and take

home.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, kids will have fun in the MEC sponsored inflatables at Foster Park.

Choices include the bounce house, an inflatable obstacle course and inflatable sports.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the craft tent, children can decorate a rubber duck for a small

fee. Mini duck races will go on during this time. There will also be a chance for kids to race their ducks on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The big duck race will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Rotary Park.

From 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, there will be special games and prizes at the MEC Game Tent for a small charge.

Kids can decorate a pumpkin or be creative with a craft project in the True Value Home & Hardware Craft Tent. For a small fee choose from a wide variety of projects and let your creativity run wild.

From noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, let your kids test their archery skills at Foster Park in Archery

Alley, under the watchful eye of Horicon Marsh Bowmen members.

St. John’s 8th Grade Class will be operating a 9-Hole Mini Golf Course at Foster Park Saturday Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m for a small charge.

The MEC Stage Tent at Foster Park will be the site of a performance by Miller & Mike on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at Audubon Days.

Miller & Mike have worked all over US and beyond. They have entertained audiences with the

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Apple Vacation Resorts, MTV, The Today Show, Extreme Makeover and the Travel Channel.

Right now they perform out of Wisconsin at libraries, fairs, festivals

and corporate events. The energy they bring is unlike any other show you’ve seen before. Combining circus skills and audience participation with good clean comedy Miller & Mike are making memories one show at a time.

On Saturday, Oct. 8, kids are invited to the Duck-O-Ration Station in Kids Craft Tent, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m and again on Sunday, Oct. 4, from noon to 4 p.m.

For a small fee, adopt a rubber duck and decorate it with a great selection of duck decorating supplies.

Children are also invited to participate in the mini duck races. Race a mini

duck by pumping water into your duck track on Saturday in the Kids Craft Tent, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and again on Sunday, Oct. 9, from noon to 4 p.m.

Comic magician Glen Gerard will perform at Audubon Days on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Casinos across America.

Spotlight Night For Teens

Geared towards 9th12th graders who love to share their art or observe art, Audubon Days is holding a Spotlight Night for Teens at The Open Door Coffeehouse!

We are looking for artists, musicians, poets, painters, photographers, writers, etc.!

Join us after the Mayville Football Game for an after party and shine the light on your craft!

Not an artist? Come and hang out, check out the art gallery and listen to live music from your peers!

Play games and enjoy your friends!

This party is going to be the place to be for teens on Friday night! And yes, curfew will be extended to midnight!

Students who want to submit a piece or perform should contact Amber Schraufnagel at theopendoorcoffee@gmail.com

Youth are encouraged to spend their Friday, Oct. 7 evening dancing the night away at St. Mary’s School Gym. From 7-9:30 p.m., area youth can show off their moves while listening to the tunes put on by DJ Express. An entry fee of

$3 will be required at the door. Concessions will be available for purchase.

All area youth in grade first through eighth are invited.

The dance encourages youth to get involved in the festival on Friday night, since there are oth-

erwise limited options.

In previous years, dances were attended by 300-400 youth.

The Audubon Days Committee hopes that this year’s event will be just as wellattended.

Beer And Wine Tasting Event At Mayville Golf Club

This year’s Audubon Days beer and wine tasting event will be at the Mayville Golf Club on Friday, Oct. 7, from 7 to 10 p.m.

This event will give you a chance to explore the tastes of fine wines and

robust beers, accompanied by a variety of hors d’oeuvres provided by Confections by Joel, Dan’s King Pin, Don Ramons, Grande Cheese, Nola North Grille, New China, Old Fashioned Foods, Piggly Wiggly, The Natural

Way, The Pub, and Widmer’s Cheese Cellar. It will feature both onpremise and off-premise wines available at businesses around town, and introduce some new ones.

Beer from around town will also be featured, as well

as a few new brands.

Some Wisconsin craft beers will be included in the mix.

Bike The Horicon Marsh Route On Saturday

Audubon Days attendees can enjoy the views of the Horicon Marsh, while also exercising, by participating in the annual bicycle tours.

On Saturday, Oct. 8, participants can register from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at Foster Park, and then set out on the tour at their leisure. The bike tour has three marked routes: 15 miles, 30 miles and a metric century. Tour maps are available for each route.

Enjoy cycling throught

rolling countryside, in and around Mayville and the Horicon Marsh Wildlife Area. Experience beautiful terrain, lush fall colors, exciting wildlife; viewing geese, cucks, cranes and more. Riders may stop to view along the routes with hiking available at Horicon Ledge Park.

Water and fruit will be provided at selected stops.

A long-sleeved Audubon Days T-shirt is guaranteed to pre-registered riders.

Event organizers will not be responsible for unclaimed shirts after race day.

Bean Bags Toss Takes Place On Sunday

Bean bag tossing has become a staple for outdoor cookouts and gettogethers. After the successful implementation of a bean bag toss contest in 2010, Audubon Days has brought it back ever since.

The bean bag toss tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Foster Park on

Saturday, Oct. 8.

Two-person teams will square off against competitors to see who can score the most bean bags through the hole. A maximum of 32 teams are welcome. Live music will be heard during the tournament.

Caricatures And Comedy With Bill Begos

As a caricature artist, Bill Begos provides unique and fun entertainment. He has performed as a caricaturist and comedian for over 17 years.

Bill performs throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio, Wyoming, the Midwest and the entire United States. This caricature artist, comedian and

entertainer is willing to draw your caricature anytime, any place in the world.

There will be no charge for this event.

Thousands of yellow rubber ducks are waiting to take their dip in the Rock River on Sunday, Oct. 9. One of the longest running events at Audubon Days, having been introduced in 1988, the second year of the festival, the rubber duck race attracts hundreds of people, waiting to see whose duck crosses the line first.

This year’s duck race will take place on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m., as the finale to Audubon Days.

Crowds will gather at Rotary Park as the ducks are dropped in the Rock River. Strays will be kept in line by following a channel. The owners of the first quackers to cross the finish line will bring home

prizes.

One duck ticket (Lucky Duck) can be purchased for $4, three tickets (Quack Pack) for $10, or buy a flock of 10 tickets (Flock) for $30. Tickets are available at area businesses and during Audubon Days. Winners need not be present to receive their prize.

This year’s grand prize is $1,500 in cash, provided by Mayville Savings Bank and Mayville Chamber of Commerce.

Other cash prizes include $500 cash donated by Mayville Tire Company and $500 cash, donated by Mayville Limestone, Inc. Other prizes include a $400 gift certificate provid-

ed by True Value Home & Hardware; a $400 gift certificate provided by LeRoy Meats of Horicon; a seasonal dinner and wine for two for a year provided by The Natural Way ($400 value) and a dinner a month for a year provided

by NOLA North Grille ($300 value); $200 gift certificate, provided by Mountin’s Piggly Wiggly; $200 gift certificate provided by Genesis Computer Systems LLC and 2 drinks per month for a year provided by The Open Door Coffeehouse ($150 value).

Again this year, a lame duck prize will be given out to the last duck. Cash prize to be determined.

Explore fine art by watching Wild Goose Fine Arts United Artists using various art mediums on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hollenstein Wagon And Carriage Factory Museum The Mayville Historical Society was organized in 1968 and owns and manages this campus of historic buildings.

The Hollenstein home and

adjoining factory were purchased and donated by the Society in 1972 with funds donated by Ted and Grace Bachhuber.

The firehouse and the

cigar factory were moved here in 1978. Extensive renovation including landscaping was accomplished in 2007.

& Carriage Factory Museum will be open on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The museum is located at the intersection of Bridge and German

Streets.

A landmark since 1857, Mayville’s historic Limestone School Museum on the corner of N. Main and Buchanan Streets will be open to visitors on both Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9, from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

The White Limestone School Building has been listed on the National Registry of Historic Places

since 1976. The building houses a wide variety of exhibits. A basement room has been renovated to become “Iron Country,” chronicling the history of iron mining and production in the city of Mayville and the surrounding mining counties.

The exhibit features a pre-World War I mining car from the Neda mine

just south of Mayville along with a large roll top desk from their office area.

We personally invite you to join us for Audubon Days, Oct. 7-9 and see for yourself what makes our residents past and present proud to call Mayville home.

If you have attended in the past, we welcome you back. If you are new to the area, we invite you to make this a new tradition for your family and friends.

This year, we bring Audubon Days back to where it started. The festival will be all downtown at and near Foster Park throughout the weekend.

With hundreds of thousands of Canada geese migrating through the vast beauty of the Horicon Marsh during their fall migration, the local resi-

dents of Mayville embrace the beautiful colors and traditions of nature by celebrating with their own community festival known as Audubon Days.

This time of the year is when our past residents plan their journeys home to see family and friends and past students plan their class reunions. We as a community welcome them back to create memories by attending and participating in the traditional events of Audubon Days as well as a few new surprises.

This year will be our 30th year of celebrating this community festival the first full weekend in October. Many of our longstanding traditional events

will continue, from the Friday night bed races in downtown, followed by Beer & Wine Tasting Friday evening to the annual Saturday morning 5K run/walk to the Sunday parade down the streets of Mayville.

Downtown will be full of activity Saturday and Sunday afternoon, including live bands, kids’ activities and more. The weekend celebration ends with the launching of ducks for the Great Rock River Rubber Duck Race. Watch as they race down the Rock River on Sunday afternoon.

No matter what, we will guarantee you a weekend filled with a variety of entertainment, sporting

Audubon Days Begins With Bed Races

Audubon Days weekend will kick off with the bed races on Friday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. The races will have an ‘80s theme.

Be sure to grab a seat along with many other spectators along South Main Street. Main Street will be closed from Horicon Street to Bridge Street, so the racers can glide to victory.

A crew will consist of up to four pushers and one passenger. All participants must be a minimum of 18 years old at the time of the race.

At least one member of each team must be female. The passenger must stay on or in the bed at all times, except for in the activity area. No other form of propulsion will be

permitted.

A completed registration form, along with payment, must be completed in order to participate. Prizes will be determined based on the number of teams participating. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase downtown during the races.
