UCLA Requirements for COVID-19 Symptom Monitoring: For Students

A. Which students are required to participate in the UCLA COVID-19 Symptom Monitoring System? All UCLA students, including students living in on- and off-campus housing, who need to come to the UCLA campus for any purpose including class, work, or other activities, collectively referred to as “Covered Students.” Please Note: -

Students who have come in close contact (within 6 feet of the individual for more than 15 minutes) with an individual suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 will be monitored by Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center.

-

Students who are not covered by UC Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) are also subject to this protocol and will receive instruction from ASHE on isolation, quarantine, and testing. ASHE may request further documentation if testing is conducted by an external provider.

-

Students who are solely in UCLA Extension programs are excluded from this protocol.

-

Students in PreK-12 Programs and Schools are excluded from this protocol.

B. How do Covered Students use the Symptom Monitoring System? 1. Covered Students are required to complete an online survey provided through the UCLA COVID-19 Symptom Monitoring System for Students each day they plan to be on campus or within campus housing. Covered Students will receive instructions on when to enroll in the Symptom Monitoring System, and then each day, the system will send an automated email reminder to complete the survey (SEE 4d below). 2. Covered Students must not enter UCLA campus grounds or facilities (collectively referred to as “Shared Spaces” if they have any of the symptoms identified in Section M. Sityar rev. 6-10-20

C, and must call UCLA ASHE Infection Control Line at 310-206-6217 to perform selfmonitoring at home prior to entering UCLA Shared Spaces. -

If they have any of the symptoms identified in Appendix A, they must call UCLA ASHE Infection Control Line at 310-206-6217 for further guidance.

3. Based on the responses to the survey, the Symptom Monitoring System will either generate a Clearance Certificate (SEE 4e below) or instruct the student to contact UCLA ASHE Infection Control Line at 310-206-6217 for further guidance. 4. If the Symptom Monitoring System directs the Covered Student to contact the UCLA ASHE Infection Control Line, the Covered Student may not enter UCLA Shared Spaces and must call the UCLA ASHE Infection Control Line at 310-206-6217 for further guidance. a. Upon assessment, the Covered Student may either be released to enter UCLA Shared Spaces OR given direction by a UCLA ASHE medical professional regarding testing, isolation, quarantine, contact tracing, and/or return-to-regular routine instruction. b. If directed not to enter UCLA Shared Spaces, the Covered Student should contact relevant parties (including work supervisors, Resident Assistant, and/or professors per their course policy) to let them know that they are unable to come onto UCLA Shared Spaces. c. If a student is exposed to or contracts COVID-19 during the course of employment at UCLA, ASHE will coordinate with UCLA Occupational Health on case management and instruction.

C. What should I do if I believe I may have COVID-19 symptoms? COVID-19 symptoms are listed below (as outlined in the Symptom Monitoring System). You can use the attached Symptom Self-Monitoring Tracker template (APPENDIX A) to supplement (but not in replacement for) symptom monitoring through the Symptom Monitoring System. Consult with ASHE if you do not have access to a thermometer. Fever is body temperature of 100.4F / 38C or higher

If symptoms appear, you should take the following steps: 1. If you experience symptoms while you are home (e.g., dorm room, apartment, house, etc.): •

Do not report to or enter any UCLA Shared Spaces.

•

Report symptoms through the Symptom Monitoring System.

M. Sityar rev. 6-10-20

Call the UCLA ASHE Infection Control Line at 310-206-6217 for further guidance and follow all instructions on testing and isolation as directed.

2. If you experience symptoms while you are on campus: • Immediately isolate yourself from others and continue to wear a face covering at all times. • Call UCLA ASHE Infection Control Line at 310-206-6217 for further guidance and follow all instructions on testing and isolation as directed. 3. Spaces for quarantine or self-isolation for students living in campus housing will be coordinated between ASHE and Housing and Hospitality Services, along with options for meal deliveries through UCLA Dining. Students living in non-University housing that are unable to effectively self-quarantine or self-isolate should inform Ashe for possible options.

D. Is UCLA conducting on campus student temperature checks? UCLA-administered student temperature checks are not currently required under local, state or federal orders. In certain circumstances, however, certain activities bear a higher risk of exposure that would justify performing temperature checks of Covered Students as a supplement to the Symptom Monitoring System survey. Refer to the UCLA Campus Temperature Screening Guidelines for COVID-19 for details on approved UCLA-administered temperature checks.

E. What steps will UCLA take when notified that a student has been exposed to COVID-19? ASHE will notify students who may have been exposed to or come into close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual while on campus, and provide instruction on quarantine, isolation, and/or testing when appropriate. If a student is exposed to or contracts COVID-19 during the course of employment at UCLA, ASHE will also coordinate with UCLA Occupational Health on case management and instruction.

M. Sityar rev. 6-10-20

UCLA will perform cleaning and disinfection of on-campus spaces of affected areas as detailed in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Responding to COVID-19 Cases on the UCLA Campus.

F. Who should I contact for general questions regarding COVID-19? UCLA officials are closely monitoring the situation and associated communications from county, state, and federal authorities.
