I was involved at the early stages of this Masterplanning scheme for a New housing located in Calverton. I produced a series of sketches showing options that resulted in varying Total houses within the Masterplan. I was involved in this Masterplanning project from it’s conception and worked to assist project Architects with research and historical analysis into the former colliery site in which the site is located.

We were instructed by the client to formulate a set of Stage 4 drawings for a small single storey extension to the rear of their house. I lead this project and produced a full set of drawings to be co-ordinated with building control. This drawing set included plans, sections and 1:5 junction details.

Nottingham Refugee Hub
The Live Design Studio project in Spring semester of Year 1 on the L7 Architectural Apprenticeship course involved the re-use of existing buildings within Nottingham City Centre.
My project was a new Refugee centre to accommodate asylum seekers that had recently been granted Refugee status and provide a bespoke space in which they could reside, learn and showcase their work eligibility.
Architecturally the scheme drew inspiration from spatial planning of historic ‘Caravanserai’ as ancient locations for ‘exchange of goods, ideas and trade’.

Architectural Research Study
Future of Infill Development Sites
The Architectural Research Study in Autumn semester of Year 1 on the L7 Architectural Apprenticeship course focussed on live field research in which we were tasked with undertaking qualitative and quantitative data collection.
My project focussed on ‘Infill Development / Garage Sites’ as this tied in with work undertaken at the time with RDA. Having noticed a decline in the requirements for these types of spaces, I wished to further research this typology and draw some conclusion that would benefit the live projects in practice.

QUANTATIVE & QUALITATIVE DATA
1. Which sites are suitably representative of the larger data set for analysis?
1. What impact does have on: Open Compact Dense
CONCLUSION
The findings of my literature review were reinforced in my on-site observations and community engagement
RESIDENT SURVEY
Community use does not match negative impacts and residents are keen to see sites developed
‘Open’ development is most sought after by residents. (From my survey findings)
‘Compact’ has sustainability benefits (Husk)
But ‘Dense’ is most likely due to financial requirement to maximise limited area. Authority do not object in principle
Residents echo findings of literature that Garage sites are poorly maintained and feel unsafe
Open development perceived as preferential but general support for all densities
Sustainability perceived as most negatively impacted by Compact and Dense development
Those prioritising open development also noted a lack of available green space, priority of ‘pocket parks’ and correlation with residence in dense wards

As part of the ‘Townscape Heritage Initiative’, we worked closely with our client to propose a new shop frontage and change of use application at 39 Eccleston Street. Using historic photographs to reference the original 1920’s shop frontage alongside manufacturers details we produced detailed Stage 4 assembly drawings. I was able to see the project from concept to completion during my year experience.

Blocks to Freedom Wall, Liverpool
Extension
As part of the annual ‘Writing on the Wall’ festival held in Liverpool, in 2018 I was design lead on a project to design and build a demountable Wall in Liverpool City Centre. The wall was built from over 1000 lightweight plastic building blocks and used as a stage, canvas and central Hub on multiple occasions over the summer.

At SMYO I worked on this back-land development project for two semi-detached houses within a tightly restricted and constrained site. Sunpath analysis and calculations played a pivotal role in the site layout and I used a range of AutoCad and hand sketching to produce a full Stage 3 planning drawing set. RIBA Stage 0-2 Autocad

Proposed Northern Headquarters for Royal College of Physicians
This university project involved the design of a new northern headquarters for the Royal College of Physicians.
Throughout the design and presentation of the project I communicated the ideas and concepts of the design through graphic illustrations completed using AutoCad, SketchUp, Illustrator and Photoshop.

Pant Du Winery, Wales
Residential Scheme
The brief for this project involved designing a winery on a sloped site in north Wales. The drawings I produced aimed to illustrate the circular form of the buildings plan and the wine making process at the heart of the brief.
