DANCE STYLES
Ballet Pointe Tap Modern Jazz
Contemporary Lyrical PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique)
Dancers find this an excellent form of exercise, using the Swiss ball to reinforce training and technique through muscle memory. Especially good for turn out and core stability. This is an innovative program designed for students to understand the depth of training muscle memory. Lyrical
A slow and emotive dance style incorporating ballet and jazz techniques through expressive storytelling. Skills include turns, leaps, kicks, balances, partnering and lifts. A strong ballet and jazz knowledge aids choreography and style. Use of ballads and slow emotive lyrical songs enables dances to tell and story through movement.
Ballet Ballet is the basis for all other dance forms and is also on of the most widely studied art forms on the planet. Ballet encourages good posture, muscular strength, confidence & discipline. We follow the RAD, IDTA and NATD ballet syllabuses. Tap Tap is a form of dance that utilises sound created by metal plates attached to the ball and heel of the dancer’s shoe. Many other dance forms have influenced tap over the years including African Juba, English Clogg Dancing and Irish Stepdancing. Modern Jazz Modern Jazz is fun. You will learn to develop many different movements reaching to a broad choice of varying rhythms and musical styles. Classes are structured to begin to prepare the physical strength and flexibility required to demonstrate emotion through interpretation of any musical genre. Contemporary Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floor work, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music.
PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique)

Gymnastic Dance / Acro Creating elegant, acrobatic routines. With inspiration from gymnastic floor work and rhythmic gymnastics, this dance style incorporates acrobatic movement into elegant flowing routines, with creative, expressive lifts and poses. Requiring strength, flexibility and technique.
Musical Theatre /Drama Musical Theatre brings together the skills of singing, drama and dance. It enables children to express themselves and builds confidence in a fun and relaxed environment.
Gymnastic Dance/ Acro Musical Theatre/ Drama Street Dance / Hip Hop An improvisational, hip-hop inspired, active dance style. Street Dance is improvisational and social in nature, encouraging interaction and contact with spectators and other dancers. The hip-hop dance style Bboying, and the funk-style Popping and Locking, are some of the most popular Street dance styles. Street dance has evolved between people in a social environment, with dancers creating their own style and moves.

Exam results (from grade 6+ and vocational examinations) also transfer into UCAS points to support University applications for all courses.
The decision to enter a student is made at the discretion of the teacher and principal, with the approval of appropriate parents/carers. Many factors are taken into consideration when an entry is made. In the majority of cases, it is the length of time spent in class and ability levels. Some exam entries have restricted age requirements (dependent upon D.O.B).
The children can be entered for examinations which we promote. However, these are not a pre requisite for advancement and students can move up to the following grade at the teachers discretion. The qualifications gained are recognised by the QCF (Qualification and Credit framework) and are highly valued within the industry, by universities and other HE institutions offering degree courses and programmes in the performing arts.
