Here at the Academy we not only hope to progress your child’s athletic ability in dance, but also encourage important life skills such as COMMITMENT, SPORTSMANSHIP, RESPONSIBILITY, RESPECT FOR SELF and OTHERS. These lessons are taught in a supportive, safe and positive atmosphere. Our Philosophy is simple: A strong program means stronger teams which will create happy and dedicated athletes. The sport of competitive dance has moved well into the 21st century. Particularly here in the UK, the standard of All-star dance has increased at a rapid pace. We have always prided ourselves on the opportunities we have created for all members of our Academy . Although this is a philosophy we wish to maintain, in order to keep up with the ever-increasing standard, we have had to re-evaluate our selection process for competition teams. Each member of a competitive team (and new members), are selected through a skill check audition process. These are conducted by the teachers who teach the athletes on a weekly basis and details of these auditions have been listed below. It is our goal to create an atmosphere for athletes to develop lasting friendships, self-confidence, a strong sense of ‘SPARKLE’ and great memories that they will carry for ever.
Our coaching philosophy is defined by the following: Dance is a SPORT.
Competitive Dance is a SPORT and not an ACTIVITY. Our All-Star dancers receive an advanced level of dance training, which requires a high level of dedication and commitment from the dancer. Our programme is built for a dancer who truly wishes to be pushed and challenged to the fullest.
We train ATHLETES Our program trains competitive athletes who utilize the elements and skills of traditional dance for competition.
Here at the Academy, we believe that dance is a true art form and we strive to help our dancers build the confidence needed for self-expression through the medium of dance.
Coaching Philosophy
Our competitive programme requires a strong commitment from the athlete as well as the athletes’ family. It’s a great way for athletes to learn new skills, develop a sense of what it means to work together as a team for a common goal and to develop a sense of pride and sportsmanship whilst making life long friendships. It is our goal to create an atmosphere for athletes to develop lasting friendships, self-confidence, a strong sense of ‘SPARKLE’ and great memories that they will carry with them forever.
PERFECTION before progression Our coaches will not allow athletes to learn advanced skills before perfecting their basics. Proper technique is everything! Only PERFECTED Skills will be considered for team placements and choreography.
Athlete CONDITIONING Injuries are always a concern especially with cheerleading. The best way to avoid them is through proper technique, flexibility and conditioning training. We place emphasis on these core principles during training. However, we do encourage our athletes to take part in our Conditioning classes (mandatory for Lyrical/ Pom) during term time .
