Past Activities That Have Been A Hit at the Market

![]()

Activities are required for Community Booths to engage meaningfully with market visitors instead of standing idly by a table full of flyers. Teaching or showing visitors something about your organization’s mission or work in the community will make more of a lasting impression and impact, and is more fun for everyone involved!
If you’re struggling to come up with an idea for your booth, think of the mission and work that your org does in the community, and where it already exists in the physical world/has a hands-on application. See if you can repurpose or re-imagine these as activities that you could bring to the market. Making a game out of information (about your org/mission) is always a good way to teach visitors something new.

Strings attached to corresponding plants that grow along the Red River expanded to show the length of the plant’s actual root system. Participants guess the length before pulling out the string. This activity was inexpensive, reusable, and great for both kids and adults.

Build your own plant a seed kit to bring with you home. Seeds turn into plants that can offer fresh, nutritious produce if nurtured correctly!

“What we say to each other matters”
Postcards (with photos taken by Peter), writing utensils, and postage were provided for visitors, who were encouraged to send a message to a friend to make their day. Kids in the EO program assisted visitors with the activity!

Demonstrations on portaging a canoe were given throughout the market, and visitors were able to try it out themselves if they wanted!
Don’t be afraid to go big - something unique, active, and fun like this is very eye catching to passerby and will attract more traffic to your booth!

Spin the wheel to receive a free craft take-home kit!

Visitors spun a wheel with different physical activities on them and were then challenged to do the selected activity at the market (10 pushups, 10 lunges, 5 burpees, etc.)
