…FAZ hopeful Chipolopolo will rise By MICHAEL MIYOBA
T
HE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says it is hopeful Zambia will rise and that the Chipolopolo boys will qualify to five Africa Cup of Nations in the next ten years after missing out on the last two AFCON editions. FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said Chipolopolo coach Milutin ‘Mitcho’ Sredojevich has an opportunity to pick players from the under-17, under-20, the CHAN team, and the players who have gone into various professional leagues to make formidable squads which can compete.
During an interactive session with the media on Saturday, Kamanga said the association has assembled various national teams which will take Zambian football forward at both senior and junior levels. “We think the foundation we have built is now going to be strong enough to sustain our football fortunes. “This is why it is very important, that when we talk about the 10 Years Strategic Plan, we are now going to make sure that we get to a point where, we avoid finding ourselves where success becomes our own enemy. “We need to continuously manage the success we have recorded at junior level so that
Man Utd: Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial's rise to form When Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan last summer, they were accused of having made a significant error and of leaving themselves short of goalscoring options. When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side won just two out of seven games at the start of 2020 and were six points below the top four - leading to the surprising signing of Odion Ighalo on loan from the
Chinese Super League - their manager's decision-making looked questionable. But as United have improved this year, so have their front three. we don’t come and face the same problems we faced before,” Kamanga said. He said the association has embarked on a 10-year strategic plan which will ensure that Zambian football goes forward. Kamanga said the 10-year plan is critical as it will ensure that Zambia qualifies to five Africa Cup of Nations and three World Cups. “We want to get to a point where even if we leave FAZ today, whoever will come in, will find structures, all they are going to do is implement, and change whatever they will want but there will be a benchmark to start from. He said time had come for Zambia to start thinking of winning its second Africa Cup
of Nations like African giants Egypt, who have won it seven times and Cameroon and Ghana who have won five and four times respectively. Kamanga said what his executive has done in the last four years has given them impetus to build on the next four years. “We have realised that if we are going to develop football across the country, we should look at all the provinces and in doing so we are saying going forward, FAZ will focus on provincial leagues,” he said. Meanwhile, Kamanga has hailed FAZ Super Division sponsors, MTN Zambia and Super Sport for promoting the growth of football in the country.
‘Defend the FAZ Constitution’ By MICHAEL MIYOBA ZAMBIA Sports Fans Association (ZASPOFA) patron Peter Makembo has urged the Football Association of Zambia to follow and defend the FAZ Constitution to avoid any sanctions from FIFA. Makembo said it is unfortunate that FIFA has warned FAZ with a 10 days ultimatum for the association to resolve the wrangles which have continued to affect the soccer body since the Andrew Kamanga led executive took office in 2016. He said there is need for the association to put its house in order and promote unity while abiding by the FAZ Constitution to avoid a possible ban from FIFA. “It’s up to FAZ to put its house in older by following what is written in their constitution. They should stand and defend the constitution. “The 10 days given by FIFA is enough time to resolve the wrangles because rules are there and if they don’t follow the rules, these wrangles will never end so let them follow what the constitution says, this

is a straight forward issue,” Makembo said. “Let FAZ stick to what the rules say.” FIFA has given the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) 10 days to resolve the wrangles or risk being sanctioned. According to a letter addressed to FAZ President Andrew Kamanga and signed by FIFA Chief Member Association Officer Veron Masengo Omba, the international sports body is aware that FAZ has been dragged to Court, a move described as an anomaly. Damiano FC manager Damiano Mutale and Patson Lusaka sued FAZ in an attempt to stop the FAZ elections, a case which was referred to the Constitutional Court. And expelled FAZ vice president Richard Kazala, sued Kamanga and his general secretary Adrian Kashala for contempt of court. However, Omba warned that all Football matters are not resolved in national Courts and that the aggrieved should rush to FIFA.
