3 injured in afternoon crash BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Several individuals escaped with non-serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash in which one overturned at Harper Road and Shiloh Road on Wednesday afternoon. A 2007 Cadillac Escalade driven by Beverly Thrasher, 49, of Corinth, came to rest on the driver’s side on the south side of the intersection about 2:49 p.m. Thrasher and a 7-month-old child in the vehicle were taken to Magnolia Regional Health Center. Deputy Police Chief Scotty Harville said the investigation of the crash found that Thrasher was southbound on Harper when her vehicle was struck by an eastbound 2001 Mercury Villager driven by Billie Ruth Moss, 66, of Corinth. He said Moss ran the red light. Moss also was taken to

Some Blue Mountain College students delivered more than just shirts. The 12 ethics and social responsibility pupils brought with them the joy of giving. North Corinth Christian Academy was the recipient of 69 polo shirts and 20 reversible basketball jerseys following a project by the BMC students. “I wanted them to have a hands-on experience,” said BMC Instructor of Business LeeAnne Price. “Each shirt they sold, Agape North would donate one in return to a student in need.” The project brought the dozen together and helped them see what giving is all about. “We learned to not take anything for granted,” said Blue Mountain student Jake Keller. “It’s good to give back and for us to do that we had to trust each other.” Walnut’s Connie Ostrander agreed with her classmate. “The project helped us really give of ourselves,” she said. The 12 started with the small goal of providing 20 basketball jerseys to the North Corinth elementary team, according to

Local county unemployment rates decreased during October, following the statewide trend for the month. Alcorn County unemployment stood at 8.4 percent, according to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, down from 9.4 percent in September. The county also hit that figure — the lowest of the year — in August. A year ago, the rate was at one of its highest points in recent years, 11.9 percent. The county had 1,280 unemployed during the month, compared to 1,870 a year earlier. Those employed numbered 13,940, up from 13,840 a year earlier. Initial unemployment insurance claims numbered 113 in Alcorn County during

City considers purchase Project will lay wreaths at national cemetery of additional leaf vacuum BY STEVE BEAVERS

The City of Corinth is looking into the purchase of a second leaf vacuum to help with fall cleanup. The Board of Aldermen recently approved soliciting bids for a truck equipped with a mountable leaf vacuum. Street Commissioner Jim Bynum said it would have the advantage of requiring only one employee to operate it, and the leaf equipment could be removed so that the truck can be used for various needs such as hauling debris during times of the year when leaves are not a problem. The driver of the truck “will
have a joystick where he will control the hose automatically,” said Bynum. “It will reach out there and suck up the leaves along the side of the truck.” He believes it will be a faster and more efficient set-up than the current leaf vacuum, which requires more than one person to operate but will also continue to be used. Bynum said the city doesn’t have the budget or the manpower to purchase and operate the six or eight machines it would take to fully cover the city. He said the depart-
Remember, Honor and Teach. Members of American Legion Post 6 are out to do all three when they take part in the Wreaths Across America project Dec. 15 at Corinth National Cemetery. A ceremony to lay hundreds of wreaths will be held at 11 a.m. and coincides with the national event held at Arlington National Cemetery. “We’ve had an overwhelming response this time,” said American Legion Ladies Auxiliary’s Carlean Parker. “There were 185 ordered from this area and with what they bring from Oxford, we should top last year’s number.”
