MRHC showcases new improvements BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com

It never stops for Magnolia Regional Health Center. The hospital remains committed to making things better for its patients. The commitment is reaching another level with the completion of a two-year project that will see the opening of a new main entrance along with upgrades to departments such as the emergency room and radiology.

“The community deserves the best health care it can be given” said MRHC CEO / President Rick Napper. “This is not about doctors and employees, it's about the patients and the experiences they have here.” An open house for the public to see the changes is set for Thursday from 8 a.m. until noon. During the open house, individuals will be taken on tours through the hospital's new emergency room, pre-admission testing area, radiology

department, central scheduling area, women's imaging center and cardiology. “In the past, it has been very difficult to get into the hospital for patients … there were six points of entering the facility,” said Mark Studdard, vice president of the Heart and Cancer Centers. “One of the goals of the project was to have one main entrance and have all the parking centered around that Please see MRHC | 2A

Rules have been set for the planned year-round Alcorn County Farmers Market on Fulton Drive across from the Crossroads Playhouse and former county jail. The board of the Fulton Drive farmer’s market, where a covered shed is soon to be constructed, have released a number of rules of operation for the location. The decision to go to a yearround market reflects the increasing availability of some

items. The year-round market is expected to open up new sales for growers. The board, which includes McCoy Phillips, President Rufus Duncan Jr., Billy Haynie, David Johnson and Vice President Charlie Crum, has established a permit fee of $25 for farmers and producers to participate in the market yearround. The board is also requiring participating producers to be residents of Alcorn, Tishomingo, Prentiss or TipPlease see MARKET | 3A

Power surge causes damage at arena BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com

In other board business: Discussed the need of a refurbished computer. ■ Heard about a possible Oak Ridge Boys concert. “Their promoter reached out to us with an interest to come,” said general manager Tammy Genovese. “They did a Christmas show here in 2007 and 2009,” Genovese told the board. “We probably need to make a decision pretty quick.” The promoter wanted the show to be either April 26 or 28. ■

The Crossroads Arena is waiting for a quote before it can fix its backup power system. Board members learned Wednesday that a power surge damaged the transfer switch of the facility, leaving the facility with no backup system should something happen. “It's going to be fairly expensive,” said operations manager Greg Moss. “It could cost $5,000 to $6,000.” Moss said he was notified recently of a possible lightning strike that destroyed the board in the control room.

farm show BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com

Saturday was a good day to buy something. Farmers from across the region thought so as hundreds turned out for the equipment auction at the Alcorn Farm & Machinery-Home & Outdoor Show. “For the second year, it has grown tremendously,” said Crossroads Arena Operations Manager Greg Moss. “I am well pleased with the turnout, and we are in the process of getting ready for a third year.” Farmington Mayor Dale Fortenberry was one of many strolling through the numerous pieces of equipment. “My wife made me leave the checkbook at home,” he said with a smile. “This is a good
