Corinth aldermen on Tuesday approved a zoning change affecting the old West Side Trailer

The Corinth Area Convention & Visitors Bureau approved $23,100 in funding requests from local organizations to help promote upcoming events that will bring visitors to Corinth. The tourism board voted Tuesday to contribute to the promotional efforts for the Alcorn County Farm and Machinery Show and Auction, the Corinth Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas concert and the Sons of Confederate Veterans’ annual Relic Show and Sale. The largest sponsorship was $19,100 for the Alcorn Farm Machinery Home & Outdoor Show, scheduled for Jan. 17-19. The arena requested $28,000 for the event, but the tourism board declined to pay for several of the arena’s requests, including $1,000 for website design and maintenance, $200 for a girl to send out emails to people in the arena’s database, $1,000 for the use of signs, including the arena’s marquee to advertise the show, $800 for after-hours staff to work the event, $500 for miscellaneous supplies and $5,000 in “contingency” funds. According to the funding request from arena staff member Cindy Davis, approximately 6,500 people attended the threeday event last year, not counting the people who attended the auction outside. Five year-old Olivia Spencer keeps warm while waiting to rehearse her role as Young Clara in the Turning Point Dance Academy’s “Best of the Nutcracker” set for Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Corinth Coliseum Civic Center. Folks in the Crossroads area may want to take note of Olivia’s plan to take a blanket along through the holiday weekend. The overnight low temperature Friday night is expected to dip near the freezing mark while Saturday’s high temperature is expected to only reach a crisp 51 degrees, but with sunny skies.

Although many households continue to cook a traditional Thanksgiving meal at home, many families take advantage of prepared meals at businesses such as Kroger, which offers five different dinners which must be ordered today. Oakland Baptist Church is offering its “Taste of Hope” on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the church for any family in need of a hot meal, while First Presbyterian Church’s outreach ministries and friends continue a long tradition Thursday with plans to deliver 600 meals to those in need throughout Alcorn County.
