Arena outsources concert liquor sales BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
Things are going according to plan as Crossroads Arena gets ready for its initial show involving liquor sales. “An Evening of the Blues” — starring folk-funk creator Bob-
by Rush — is scheduled as the first liquor event on November 8. Since the Crossroads Arena has yet to receive its liquor license, sales will be outsourced to a local vendor. “It’s taking much longer than we expected,” said Cross-
roads Arena General Manager Tammy Genovese of attaining the license. “Other venues use the option we are using for the blues festival.” “We will see how it goes,” added board chairman Dr. Hardwick Kay. “If there are
problems, we will address it and make changes.” Kay doesn’t expect everyone to be happy with the facility for serving liquor at select events. “We will catch some flack over it,” he said. “Every other facility does it and we have to

give it a try.” Genovese told the board on Wednesday that 13 of the 17 tables on the floor for the show have been sold. Tickets went on sale July 8. Please see LIQUOR | 2A

MICHIE, Tenn. — A 27-year-old Corinth man has been arrested by the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department in connection with two burglaries of Dollar General Stores in Michie and Milledgeville. Johnathan Matthew Hodum, of 2110 Norman Road in Corinth, was arrested Tuesday night and is now in the McNairy County Jail, according to McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck. Hodum was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, two counts of theft and unlawful possession of a firearm. Buck said he expects that two more arrests in connection with the Hodum two burglaries will be made soon by his department. A cooperative effort between four sheriff’s departments in Mississippi and a pair of federal law enforcement agencies helped in the arrest of Hodum. “They would break in the foot door of the stores and then tie a chain to the store’s safe and drag it out of the store,” commented Buck. “They never spent more than two minutes in either of the stores.” Sheriff Buck said that he had been in contact with the security department in Dollar General Store’s corporate office about the problems of store burglaries. Dollar General has been plagued with thefts of store safes all across the Crossroads Area. The amount taken from the recent theft of the Michie store was around $2,500 in cash, plus the damage to the store’s front and loss of the safe. Milledgeville’s Dollar General Store was broken into earlier in July. “I’m really proud of our department because they did some very good police work in this case,” praised Buck.

Rack of fun Cooper Jones, 6, was on top of things Wednesday in front of Borroum’s Drug Store. The youngster decided to take his fun a bit higher by climbing on top of a newspaper rack to play with his trucks near his mother’s business of All Fired Up. The child is the son of Jay and Jamie Jones.

ADAMSVILLE, Tenn. — A 4-year-old boy is on life support at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital and two adults are in custody facing possible child abuse charges. The charges could be elevated depending on the health of the child. Anthony Dilworth and his girlfriend, Kerie Kyle, of 337 McIntyre Road in Adamsville, were arrested and are being held in the McNairy County Jail, according to McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck. The boy was brought to the McNairy Regional Hospital’s emergency room Wednesday night with numerous injuries and the sheriff’s department was contacted because of the possible child abuse injuries. “The boy was transported to LeBonheur after the physical exam when they discovered bleeding inside the child’s head,” said Buck. “The boy had bruises of various ages on the stomach and other parts of the body.” Sheriff Buck said many charges on Dilworth and Kyle are being discussed with District Attorney Michael Dunavant, but no formal charges have been made at this time. The sheriff said that Kyle admitted to levels of child abuse, but not to the injuries the boy was treated for Wednesday night. Dilworth and Kyle are being held in the McNairy County Jail on administrative leave until the DA determines the charges Please see BOY | 2A
