More than 100,000 Mississippians have added cell phone numbers to the state’s No Call Program in the last six months. Since July, the list has opened up to include cell phones along with land lines in the battle

A $23,000 fundraising goal was set so 1,000 food baskets could be given to local families on Saturday, Dec. 17. The baskets were given away on faith the goal will be reached. Recent donations include a $100 anonymous gift in honor of Jesus; and $60 from David Flatt in memory of Larry Nethery, James Bivens and Ralph Watkins. Christmas Basket Fund donations can be made “in honor of” or “in memory of” a special person or persons. The tribute will be published in the Daily Corinthian. A major disaster has been averted. Multiple law enforcement agencies, fire departments and emergency units responded to the Corinth-Alcorn County Airport shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday when a small aircraft with five people on board reported it had to make an emergency landing because an engine had went out. The aircraft first reported the failed engine five miles from the local airport. Alcorn County Director of Emergency Services Ricky Gibens said the plane was coming from Arkansas enroute to North Carolina. “It was a successful landing,” said Gibens. “No one was inquired and the occupants are already in the process of getting a rental car and getting back on the road.” The aircraft landed safely and in the words of one emergency Please see LANDING | 2A

Caring for families since 2006, Rhonda Wilbanks started out at Magnolia Funeral Home as an office coordinator and hair and makeup artist, but was later asked to consider becoming a funeral director. “I had never really thought about it before, but after seeing how they helped the families, decided to take the test, which I passed in December of 2010,”she said. “If I can take the worst day of a person’s life and make it a little easier, then I have done my job.” The 52-year-old counts herself blessed to have an amazing family, both in heaven and on earth. “My family is my life. I don’t know what I would do without my sister Danita, my boyfriend Greg, my nephew Matthew, and my brother Greg and his family. They are what keeps me going.”
