Annual Father-Daughter Ball returns to make memories BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

It will be a denim and diamond kind of night. The Father-Daughter Ball presented by the Corinth Kiwanis Club will return in February for the sixth annual fundraiser event. Set for Saturday, Feb. 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Crossroads Arena, the ball will give local daddies and daughters an excuse to breakout their cowboy boots and enjoy the “Denim and Diamond” theme. Ticket sales began this week for the event at corinthkiwanis.org. “The night provides a special evening for fathers, grandfathers and father-figures to carry their princesses to the ball for fabulous food, music, dancing and more,” said event chair Ken Weeden. “Just like last year, tickets to the ball can only be purchased by going to our website. This helps us streamline the registration process.” Tickets are $40 for the first couple and $10 for each additional daughter. The ball will feature Meet the Princesses, Face Sticker Station and a

On Sunday organizers of the Crossroads Christmas Day meal will continue their mission to make sure no one spends Christmas alone. After four years of holding the traditional Christmas meal at Living Free Ministries, this year’s event is moving to a new location at Alcorn Central High School. The Alcorn Central cafeteria will open around 10:30 a.m. for the sit-down meal which will continue until roughly 3:30 p.m. The meal is a time for the Crossroads area to come together to share a meal and the meaning of Christmas, said Marea Wilson, who works throughout the year to help the community with her husband Tommy at Corinth’s Living Free Ministries, a faith-based addiction recovery center in Corinth. “The Christmas Day meal has nothing to do with addiction,” said Marea. “One thing I love is when you come out there, you don’t know who’s there because they’re hungry, who’s there

A white Christmas is always a long shot in the Mid-South, and rarely more so than this year. The weather forecast calls for nearly short sleeves weather on Christmas Day with a high temperature of 72. “We’re talking on the order of about 20 to 25 degrees above normal,” said National Weather Service Memphis Meteorologist Mike Johnson. “That’s pretty substantial.” It will also likely be near a record high. The local NWS cooperative observation site with records dating to 1895 shows a record Christmas

Mary Coats knows her way around vehicles. As the senior sales consultant at Long Lewis Ford in Corinth, Coats is known as “The Hat Lady” thanks to her various fashionable head coverings. Organially from Savannah, Tenn., she was a long time owner of Christopher’s Restaurant. “I sold my restaurant in 2000 and I was looking to start my next chapter,” she said. “I think God just put me right here. I love it -- my customers and the people I work with are great.” Coats has one son, John, and one granddaughter, 13-year-old Madison. “I love spending time with my family,” she added. “Madison is very special to me – we spend a lot of time together.”

high of 75 degrees in 1942. While NWS Memphis doesn’t have historical readings for Corinth, the record Christmas high in Jackson, Tenn., is 71 and in Tupelo is 78. The winter warmup is not expected to be a harbinger of severe weather this time. A cold front will arrive early next week. “It will bring some more rain chances and knock temperatures back closer to normal,” said Johnson. “The chance of thunderstorms is pretty low.” In any year in the MidSouth, the probability of a Please see FORECAST | 5
