Alcorn County’s three newest school board members recently became a little more familiar with their school district. Incoming Alcorn School District board members Daniel Cooper, Ann Little and Ricky Fields meet with district office staff last week during an orientation session. “As far as I know, this district has never had three new board members coming onboard at the same time,” said Superintendent Larry B. Mitchell. “My hope for this meeting is to give these board membersw some idea of what goes on in the school district, who works in the office and who they need to contact in case certain issues come up.” Mitchell said being a school board member can be demanding with a never-ending amount of information. Senior District 4 school board member Mary Coleman, who also attended the orientation meeting, agreed.

Teresa Gibens, Adamsville Staff photo by Jebb Johnston

As an art history major, Teresa Gibens of Adamsville was naturally drawn to Corinth’s art gallery, where she serves as a volunteer. “I wanted to put time in at an art gallery,” she said. “I had heard of this place but I had never been in here. I want to learn from Sonny [Boatman] what he knows.” She likes to paint and carve art in the Pacific Northwest style — “what most people would call totem pole,” explained Gibens. An avid horse rider, she enjoys outdoor activities and attends Landmark Pentecostal Church in Stantonville. She has a daughter, Noel, named for Christmas.
