No reindeer? No problem! Santa soars into Harper Square

The spirit of giving is alive and well in the Crossroads area as donations are beginning to arrive for the 18th Annual Corinth Rotary Club / Daily Corinthian 2013 Christmas Basket Fund. The civic club and newspaper have set a $25,000 community fundraising goal this year so 1,000 food baskets can be given away to local families at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Crossroads Arena. If the number of applications are any indication, the need this year will be an all-time high for folks who need help with a good holiday meal. The total remains at $430 af-

Santa Claus doesn’t need a sleigh when he comes to Corinth. All he needs is a helicopter, and a few good pilots to fly him to his destination. On Black Friday, Santa landed in the Harper Square parking lot in front of Gingers -- much to the delight of the large crowd on-hand. Ginger’s owner, Ginger Stockton, says this is the third year Santa has been the passenger of a helicopter and been delivered to her store. “Three years ago we decided

The Crossroads area has plenty of local heroes. However, Sears of Corinth has decided to honor a select group of heroes with their 2013 Charity Campaign. A holiday “Salute to Local Heroes, sponsored by Sears, has selected the Corinth Fire Department as their honorees for this year. “This is a big deal for us and we are thrilled to be the ones selected for this program, said Fire Chief Billy “Lucky Briggs. “Out of all the heroes we have in our community it is very humbling. The proceeds collected and given to us will be put to good use by buying some training equipment we really need. Craftsman’s Bottle Cap Wrench is the item which will be sold for the charity campaign. Every time a bottle cap wrench is bought, a $2 donation will be made to the CFD for every one sold. The D/9-4133 Craftsman Bottle Cap Wrench is sold at Sears for only $9.99. Sears Store Manager, Lynda Boswell, said they had a choice on who to pick to receive the proceeds and it was a hard choice.

Some familiar favorites and new faces will take the coliseum stage for Tuesday’s annual community Christmas concert. “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, presented by the Corinth Area Arts Council at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Corinth Coliseum Civic Center, is about getting the community into the spirit while helping to preserve a historic venue. “I am honored to be a part of a community with a love for our history, preserving our heritage while enriching our future here, said Arts Council President Cindy Mathis. “Corinth is so fortunate to have many historic buildings intact and thriving. It is the work of the arts council to continue to improve upon and see that restoration projects at the coli-

seum keep up with the needs of this 90-year-old treasure. Proceeds from the $10 ticket price help to maintain the building. Funds from past shows have helped with projects such as improved stage lighting and new carpet and furnishings in the inner lobby. And those improvements help keep the building in top form for events such as weddings, receptions, recitals and meetings. “We want the community to take advantage of this theater, said Mathis. Upkeep of the building depends on private and memorial donations and funds from the county government. Chad Dickerson returns as master of ceremonies for this year’s concert, and the tenor
