Corinth to host economic council Highlighting the strengths of regions throughout Mississippi is the goal of the Mississippi Economic Council’s Regional Round-Up meetings. The Corinth stop is set for Thursday, Dec. 4 at Shiloh Ridge Athletic Club, located at

3303 Shiloh Ridge Road. The event, which will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., is co-hosted by The Alliance and North Mississippi Industrial Development Association. Over the next few months, MEC will travel to approximate-

ly 30 communities throughout the state, discussing opportunities for those communities and regions to help grow Mississippi’s economic competitiveness. During the Regional Round-Up meetings, which are sponsored by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of

Corinth’s Coliseum Civic Center has seen its share of shows over its 90 years. The Corinth Area Arts Council wants the downtown land-

mark to continue to be a vital part of the local arts scene. In an effort to do that, the council is putting on the 8th Annual Coliseum Christmas Show at 7 p.m. on Tuesday Dec. 2 to raise money for the venue.

“The concert has become a tradition to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season,” said council member Cindy Mathis. “It is being built up as Please see SHOW | 2A

A number of defendants entered guilty pleas during the last few weeks of Alcorn County Circuit Court. Sentences handed down include: ■ Daneita Hargett, 43, welfare fraud — Suspended three-year sentence, two years probation, $200 fine and pay restitution of $5,499 to the Mississippi Department of Human Services ■ Jonathan Horner, 27, possession of controlled substance (marijuana) with intent — Suspended five-year sentence, four years probation and $1,000 fine ■ Michael Gunn, 27, possession of marijuana — Suspended five-year sentence, four years probation and $1,000 fine ■ Ricky Lynn Stokes, 35, felon in possession of a fiream — Suspended 10-year sentence, five years probation and $1,000 fine ■ Dana Gray, 31, grand larceny — Suspended five-year sentence, four years probation, $1,000 fine and pay restitution totaling $1,648.80. On a separate indictment for credit card fraud, the judge

imposed a suspended threeyear sentence with a $1,000 fine concurrent to the other sentence and ordered payment of restitution in the amount of $1,073.76 with a codefendant. ■ Steven Hicks, grand larceny — Suspended five-year sentence, five years probation,$1,000 fine and pay restitution to Kansas City Southern Railroad ■ April Wade, possession of cocaine with intent enhanced by firearm — Suspended 16year sentence, five years probation and $1,000 fine. The indictment includes a second count, possession of a stolen firearm, which resulted in a suspended five-year sentence. ■ Michael Fowler, 18, burglary of a dwelling — Sentenced to the Regimented Inmate Discipline Program, five years probation, $1,000 fine and pay restitution of $3,347.84 jointly with a codefendant ■ Jeff Gingery, 53, sale of Clonazepam — Suspended eight-year sentence, five years probation and $1,000 fine ■ Tonya Keeton, 51, manufacture of methamphetamine Please see COURT | 6A

Genesis Christian Academy is in the game. The Giants have some snazzy uniforms to prove it.
