Basket Fund goal set at $25,000 BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com

The Christmas season is a joyous occasion. This time of year can also be tough for those who are less fortunate. The Corinth Rotary Club and Daily Corinthian are stepping up to make Christmas a little brighter for families in need. The 20th Annual Corinth Rotary Club/Daily Corinthian Christmas Basket Fund will

provide around 1,000 baskets filled with food and paper products to help those less fortunate during the Christmas holiday season Deadline to apply for a basket ended Nov. 20. “The Rotary Club and the Daily Corinthian are extremely pleased to be able to play a part in helping provide food for the needy in our community, especially during the holiday season,” said Daily Corinthian

Publisher Reece Terry. Basket giveaway is set for Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Crossroads Arena. Baskets will be distributed beginning at 8 a.m. Organizers have set a goal of $25,000 to accommodate the need in the community. “We are dependent on the generosity of those in our community who contribute to the Christmas Basket Fund,” added Terry. “Without community support, this effort simply

would not be possible.” Donations to help with the effort can be dropped off at the newspaper office located at 1607 South Harper Road or mailed to Daily Corinthian Christmas Basket Fund, P.O. Box 10, Corinth, MS. 38835. Donations can be made in memory or in honor of an individual or group. All donations will be acknowledged in Please see BASKET | 6A

Noyes’ song featured in new Julia Roberts film BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

Success has a found the humble Maty Noyes. The 18-year-old starlet from a small Mississippi town is “making it okay” in Hollywood. “You know things are going pretty good when you drive down Sunset Boulevard and see a billboard of the movie your song is in,” she recently said on social media. The young Corinth native’s song,

“Haunted,” is the only musical piece appearing in the new Julia Roberts movie, “Secret in Their Eyes.” Noyes was tapped by her friend, The Weeknd (stage name of Canadian artist Abel Tesfaye), after his producer Stephan Coccio asked if the popular artist knew anyone who might be able to write and sing a song for the upcoming movie. “I was able to screen the movie first,” said Noyes. “I told Stephan

that if I didn’t like the movie, I would not be able to do it.” Noyes was “very moved” by the film, which also stars Nicole Kidman. “I actually wrote the song right after seeing the movie,” she said. “I wanted the message in the song to be as powerful as the message in the movie.” An American remake on a former Please see NOYES | 7A
