Gallery moving to new location BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Corinth’s downtown art gallery is getting ready to move. The Corinth Artist Guild recently inked a lease with John Dodd for the former eye clinic building on Fillmore Street. The moving date is not set but is expected to be in December. The gallery will continue to be open for business at its 507 Cruise Street location until the

move. A “for sale sign has been posted in the front windows of the Cruise Street building for some time, and the guild wants to eliminate the continual prospect of its location being sold. “If it did sell, we would probably have 30 days to get out, said Guild President Sonny Boatman. At the new location, the guild is looking forward to having

more exhibit space and maybe picking up some different foot traffic. “We hope that the traffic for the new restaurant might give us an opportunity, he said. Boatman said the new spot is a handsome building that will give the guild more room to display the works of local artists and a room that he hopes to see used for pottery classes in the future. Work is in progress

to equip the building for the gallery’s needs, including some changes to the walls and shifting around existing shelving and fixtures. The second floor is used for storage and is not currently available to the gallery. The guild is planning a series of fundraisers to assist with moving costs. The nonprofit guild depends on volunteer help to keep the doors open.

With more space, Boatman hopes to see more art classes offered for both children and adults. Tim Hacker is slated to conduct adult classes in April. The gallery has been on Cruise Street for about eight years following two years at its original location on Franklin Street. Anyone who would like to assist with the gallery’s move may contact Boatman at 415-2688.
