Drug cases dominate court pleas BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Several defendants entered guilty pleas in Alcorn County Circuit Court this week. Lawrence Flippo, 70, pleaded guilty on two separate indict-

ments, one for sale of Oxycodone and one for sale of marijuana. For sale of Oxycodone, he was sentenced to three years in custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with

two years suspended, leaving one year to serve. The sentence is consecutive to a probation revocation sentence out of Prentiss County. For sale of marijuana, he received a suspended 20-year

sentence with five years of probation. The Alcorn Narcotics Unit reported the arrest of Flippo in January. Officers said the case against Flippo stemmed from an undercover buy of marijua-

na from the defendant. At the time, he had a County Road 200 address. Other pleas in a light week of the current term before Judge Please see PLEAS | 2

GLEN — Christmas is right around the corner. The Alcorn Central High School staff and faculty couldn’t wait to celebrate. Students got an early gift Friday — one which will have an impact on their future. Central’s “Christmas College Fair” made its debut on the campus. AC’s Beta Club also helped draw more attention to the event with a Christmas Craft booth. A percentage of what was made from the booth is being donated to the school’s drama club when it competes in the MTA Northeast Mississippi Drama Fest next month. Teachers also decorated their doors to promote the

event. The fair was part of the school’s ongoing effort this year to see its students be more prepared in their next step after high school graduation. “So many kids graduate and don’t have a clue what they are going to do next,” said teacher Rebecca Lewis. “This year we are trying to promote more of a career and college preparedness … kids need to be aware of the reality of what is out there.” The University of Mississippi, Delta State University, Mississippi University for Women, Blue Mountain College and Northeast Mississippi Community College all had Please see FAIR | 2
