CEO: C Spire to mail refund checks BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
C Spire is preparing to issue refunds to people who preregistered for its Fiber to the Home service. The company issued a press release Friday after the Daily
Corinthian reported that C Spire has stopped moving forward with deployment of residential gigabit per second Internet service in the city. C Spire said there is simply not enough interest in Corinth to justify the investment.
The company plans to notify residents who signed contracts of its decision not to build out at this time and will start mailing $10 refund checks on Nov. 11 to all who preregistered and paid the deposit. On Wednesday, CEO and
President Hu Meena informed the city that “our resources are fully committed to bringing fiber to communities that have solidly proven they want it the most. Therefore, we are unable to build out in Corinth at this time.” C Spire described the situa-
tion as hitting the pause button on construction until municipal leaders and community supporters can generate more interest. The company has invested hundreds of thousands Please see REFUNDS | 5

Holiday Market Place
Those looking for the perfect Christmas gift had plenty to choose from during the 29th Annual Holiday Market Place inside Harper Square Mall. Linda Hastings had several of her Linda’s Loveables on display during the holiday market. The market which showcases local crafters’ talents continues today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the event is free.
Mississippi Department of Corrections agents returned to Corinth one week after they removed all state inmates from the Alcorn Regional Correctional Facility. Agents removed 11 inmate laborers from the Joint State Work Program housed at Alcorn County’s state-run Community Work Center on Thursday. Grace Fisher, director of communications with MDOC, said the removal had nothing to do with last week’s regional correctional facility raid. However, she did confirm inmate laborers would not be returned until new administration enters the local sheriff’s department and a

plan of action is in place. “We are currently assessing CWC’s systemwide,” said Fisher. “We are looking at staffing and how we use each CWC.” The CWC housed 26 Joint State Work Program inmate laborers and three inmates participating in MDOC’s alcohol and drug rehabilitation program. Shortly after MDOC shut down its reimbursement program for joint labor inmates in August, those inmates were moved from the regional correctional facility to the CWC. MDOC moved the inmates despite the Board of Supervisors voting to continue housing the inmates in the county’s facility
