In a court filing, former Alcorn Central Middle School principal Dan Burcham denies the accusations against him in a civil suit filed by two school staff members. His answer to the complaint filed in Alcorn County Circuit
Court by Janet Walls Holley and Stephanie Leigh Eaton states simply that Burcham “denies each allegation” without going into specific details and asks that the suit be dismissed. Burcham denies liability for damages claimed in the suit. Ridgeland attorney C. Mai-

Baptist church on mission to help needy BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
It’s not over. People still need to be fed and know the love of Jesus. Oakland Baptist Church is taking care of both come Nov. 16. The church will have its second “Taste of Hope” in effort to let those struggling in the community know someone cares and is there to help. “We are making a little more of an effort to go to them instead off having them come to us,” said church pastor Dr. Randy Bostick. “This isn’t the only way, but we think this is the way the Lord wants us to
do it.” Last year, members of the church and volunteers served close to 500 meals. “This is the way our church wants to share with the community that we care,” said Kevin Bragg. “You build relationships through things like this.” The desire to be there for hurting people brought church members Michal Ann Spencer and Chris Botting together for a common cause last year. Their mission to reach out to others became something the entire church got behind.
“We can teach it in Sunday School every Sunday, but unless we demonstrate it outside the church it does no good,” said Spencer. “The Lord is teaches us to love on people and feed them.” A meal of lasagna, vegetables and desserts will be served in the church fellowship hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meals can also be picked up or delivered. Those requesting a meal are encouraged to contact the church office so organizers will have some idea on Please see MISSION | 2A
Corinth Firemen were kept on the scene for almost two hours following an early morning fire at Timber Products Company. According to Corinth Fire Chief Lucky Briggs, around six pallets caught on fire in the company’s warehouse at 1:30 a.m. Thursday. “There was some damage, but it was relatively minimal,” said Timber Products Plant Manager David Mitchell. “We are still investigating, but we believe it was related to a faulty overhead light.” All four fire stations responded to the fire and remained on the scene until 3:15 a.m. The fire occurred where the plant’s hardwood veneer is located, according to Mitchell. “There was lots of smoke in the building,” said the plant Mitchell. “All of our systems worked perfectly, as soon as the sprinkler heads went off, the fire department as well as appropriate Timber Products personnel were notified.” Mitchell praised the Stanley Security system of the company and Corinth Fire Department for the quick response in limiting damage to the plant which has been a fixture in Corinth for over 20 years. Owned by the Gonyea family of Springfield, Ore., Timber Products is one of the most diversified companies in the wood products industry. The company makes hardwood plywood with its core business being in interior decorative panels.
