Roof repairs are set to move forward at the VerandahCurlee House after the Board of Aldermen awarded a contract in their most recent
meeting. The board also approved a change order extending the construction time on the prior contract to Oct. 29 for substantial completion as a result of delays related to roof leaks.

The recent uptick for Corinth’s sales tax results continued as the first collections of the new fiscal year hit the books. Most of the region fared well, with nine of 11 area municipalities posting increases from the same month a year ago. That was in line with the statewide trend as collections rose 5 percent across Mississippi to $33.869 million. Narcotics unit nabs man for marijuana Staff reports
An Alcorn County man faces a felony drug charge following an arrest this past week. Cody Stover, 22, of County Road 777, Corinth, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
Narcotics Officer Darrell Hopkins said the Alcorn Narcotics Unit went to 1 County Road 777 where, during the arrest, officers found an additional 4 ounces of marijuana. Officers arrested two others at the residence on misdemeanor drug charges and took the three to the county jail.

Emergency officials will encourage local residents to hit the floor on Oct. 30. An earthquake drill is scheduled for that date at 10 a.m. Emergency Management Director Ricky Gibens encourages people to get involved and practice their response to a quake.
