SELMER, Tenn. – How will you spend eternity? It’s a question every individual will have to make at some point in life. First Baptist Church is ready to help in the decision process for a 10th consecutive year. The church’s Judgement House: “Where There’s Smoke There’s Fire” is slated for Oct. 26-27 and 30-31. “It’s an overwhelming feeling to be part of a powerful ministry such as Judgement House,” said co-director Tracie Whitaker. “The main goal each year is to win souls for Christ.” Over 100 people are involved in the eight-scene production and other aspects dealing with the drama. The 10th version is the presentation of the youth ministries of the church. “I like seeing the impact it has on the community,” said co-director Missy Whitaker. “Every business and those in the community who have been contacted have been so willing to help.” In the drama, two teenage children, Whitney and Darin, are left alone at home while

BOONEVILLE -- Workers at Booneville’s Caterpillar Remanufacturing plant had to be evacuated Monday after a fire in an air filtration system filled the facility with smoke. No injuries were reported in the fire which was quickly contained to the ventilation system, said Booneville Fire Chief Jerry Wallace. “The fire was under control at all times,” he said. A spark from a grinder used to remove gaskets from water pumps got into the air cleaning system and touched off a fire in a series of filters, explained the chief. Several of the filters caught fire, but the blaze was contained entirely within the apparatus. Firefighters used water and fire extinguishers to quench the fire and remove the filters. The burning material filled the plant with smoke, forcing the evacuation of workers for several hours as large fans were used to clear the smoke from the building. Wallace praised the response of Caterpillar employees to the incident and said he’s thankful it was contained and was not a more serious event.
