Storm brings funnel cloud reports BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Reports of funnel cloud sightings just north of Corinth and across McNairy County were numerous Monday afternoon as a strong storm system arrived. A cell ahead of the main line of storms produced a low-hanging wall cloud just north of the Tennessee state line, and a tornado warning for parts of McNairy County was issued soon after a Ramer fireman reported a possible tornado about 3:15 p.m. The storm tracked northeast across the county, producing half-dollar size hail a mile north of Milledgeville, according to a spotter report received by the National Weather Service. At 5 p.m., McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck said there were no reports of damage in the county. Bryan Huff, who enjoys photographing storms, had watched the cell on radar moving across Alcorn County as a light shower until it suddenly blew up in the state line area. “It went from nothing to being a really organized storm in about 10 minutes,” he said. An extended closure on Kendrick Road for a box culvert installation is expected to wrap up in about 30 days. First District Supervisor Lowell Hinton said the project, which forced the road to be closed for a few months, has consisted of replacement of the old bridge with a double box culvert with wings on each end to direct the water flow.
