A man who led authorities on a chase across three states following a hit-and-run crash in Selmer, Tenn. has been apprehended in Alabama.
Brandon Heath Anaya, 26, of Gadsden, Alabama, was arrested around 8:20 p.m. Monday by the Colbert County, Ala. Sheriff’s Department. He faces a felony charge of aggravated assault on an officer with

Fire damages downtown building BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
A FedEx driver’s delivery was just on time. Donta Smith stopped to tell Joe’s Shoe Store employees about a fire outside of the business on Tuesday afternoon. His action kept a fire from spreading along the downtown block. “We didn’t know anything was going on until he (Smith) stopped,” said Joe’s employee Melinda Oakman. A box of papers caught fire outside the building on Fillmore Street around 2:03 p.m, according to witnesses. Smith attempted to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. “I thought we had it put out, but it started back up,” said Oakman, who along with fellow employee Paige Reece were the only two in the store at the time. The blaze flamed to the top of an area between Joe’s and a vacant building before the Corinth Fire Department put it out. Speculation on how the fire started centered around a cig-

CT-A plans Church to host annual ‘Blessing of the Pets’ fundraisers BY KIMBERLY SHELTON kshelton@dailycorinthian.com
Each year early in October, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and many others give homage to Francis of Assisi, in remembrance of his love for all creatures and delight in God’s creation with the traditional blessing of animals. In celebration of the four-legged companions, the Episcopal church is once again providing blessings for area pets. Blessings-to-go will be dispensed by members throughout the day at the church’s booth during the upcoming Green Market. Held on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Corinth Depot, the petfriendly service will include treats for dogs and cats. The Church’s priest, the Rev. Ann Fraser, will be on hand to bless pets beginning at 11 a.m. “Everything around us, especially creatures and the created world, can be an opening for us to nurture our spiritual life, offer gratitude and seek guidance,” said Fraser. St. Paul’s has observed the blessing of animals almost every October since its former priest, the Rev. Liz Jones, first held the blessing service in the parking lot of their old church building on Taylor Street. “As a retired veterinarian, I have prayed for many of my patients and love our
