The Hog Wild festival’s carnival is moving to the old fairgrounds property to avoid disrupting grieving families at a neighboring funeral home. Patterson Memorial Chapel owner Danny Patterson met
with Mayor Tommy Irwin, other city officials and Main Street Manager Brent Johnson on Sunday to voice his objection to the originally planned carnival location in the grassy area near the funeral home, which is located in the area of Franklin and South Fillmore.
In a Monday special meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen called for another matter, he said it is disrespectful for mourning families to have to encounter carnival rides and music right outside the funeral home. “You wouldn’t want your par-
ents or loved one inside a funeral home with a carnival next door,” he told the board. At least one board member said he was unaware of the issue. Patterson was particularly upset because he has complained in past years and been

ACHS graduate Derrick takes lead role BY STEVE BEAVERS Daniel Derrick is doing a lot of traveling. The Hinds Community College student is spending the 20152016 year as FFA State President. The Alcorn Central High School graduate was elected president during the Mississippi State FFA Convention in June. Since that time, he has spent time training with leadership experts and visiting FFA events around the state. Derrick will also get the opportunity to travel to Taiwan and Thailand as part of the International Leadership Semi-
nar for state officers. “I am blessed to be able to serve in this capacity,” said Derrick. “I look forward to working with teachers and students across the great state of Mississippi.” Derrick, the son of Johnny and Laura Derrick of Corinth and a 2013 ACHS graduate, was a three-year member of FFA while at Alcorn Central. He served as sentinel and vicepresident and competed in several club events while receiving his State FFA Degree. After graduating high school, he attended Northeast Mississippi Community College and served as FFA chapter reporter.

A routine stop by the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department Saturday night at a convenience store on U.S. Hwy. 45 and U.S. Hwy. 72 in Corinth led to the arrest of a Ramer, Tenn., man wanted for burglary of a four-wheeler in McNairy County. Daniel Stanfield, 29, of Ra-

The City of Corinth is seeking candidates to fill an upcoming vacancy for city prosecutor. Attorney Thomas L. Sweat Jr. is resigning from the post effective this Friday. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen is asking that interested individuals contact City Clerk Vickie Roach by Friday,
and a special meeting to interview the prospects will likely follow on Tuesday, Oct 6. Making its return to downtown Corinth, the 2nd Fillmore Street Block Party will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the blocks between Foote and Cruise will be blocked off as attendees descend of Fillmore street for an afternoon of food, music, fashion and fun. Guests will gain a true taste of the Crossroads as they sample the local fares of smith., Lil Mike’s Grill and Pickup, Blazing Noodlez, AC’s Coffee, JT’s Falafel and Kababs, and Vicari Italian Grill.
