Competition returns to honor late member BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com

Main Street Corinth is bringing back a popular event for the 23rd Annual Hog Wild BBQ Festival to honor a former board member. The Backyard Cookers competition makes its return as a tribute to longtime Main Street Board member and community volunteer Joe Franks, who passed away on Dec. 31, 2012. “Joe built Hog Wild from the ground up,” said Main Street Director Taylor Coombs. “He believed in the festival when no one else did.” The local division, open to all in Corinth and surrounding areas, will now be called JoJo’s Backyard Cookers, according to

Coombs. The Hog Wild BBQ Festival is set for Oct. 3-5 at the Depot in

Services for Sanders, survived by a son and daughter, have yet to be announced by McPeters Funeral Directors.

ADAMSVILLE, Tenn. -- A 21-year-old graduate of Adamsville High School was arrested Thursday morning and is being charged with three crimes after allegedly posting a threat of a school shooting on an Internet message board. Codey L. Vaughan, of Gilchrist-Stantonville Road in Stantonville, was arrested by the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at his home in Stantonville. He confessed to posting the message when he was arrested. Vaughan, who graduated from AHS in 2008, is charged with harassment, filing a false report and a threat against a school official. “The district attorney is treating this very seriously and will prosecute to the fullest extent possible,” said McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck.

The post on Topix was made under the name Sniper and read Hmmm. Will there be a school shooting tomorrow and was posted around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The message resulted in a tip to the Adamsville Police Department. Adamsville Police officers searched the school facility at 3 a.m. and then checked all students with a metal detector when they arrived on campus. The school was placed on lockdown until the arrest was made Thursday morning. “We just had an intruder drill last week to help prepare for emergency situations,” said AHS Principal Greg Martin. “We talk about what to do in a case this like this in every faculty meeting. Our teachers did a great job of taking care of the students and making sure they were safe.” Please see THREAT | 3A

Downtown Corinth was invaded by a large amount of sixth graders on Thursday. Close to 300 students and teachers from Alcorn County traveled the streets during the Architectural Discovery Walk of the Lead Inspire Nurture Kids (LINK) program.

During the tour, costumed LINK volunteers were stationed at various locations around downtown to speak with the tourists. “The tour covered a lot of the architecture of Corinth,” said volunteer William McMullin, who spoke with students at Waldron Street Christian Church. “We described

the buildings and how they played a part in the history of Corinth.” County schools Biggersville, Corinth, Glendale and Rienzi went through a morning session. Alcorn Central and Kossuth had to cancel its afternoon date due to the threat of rain.
