Coln appointed interim supervisor BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
The Alcorn County Board of Supervisors named Ralph Coln to finish the current term for the Second District. The appointment was made in a special meeting of the
board on Friday in a 3-1 vote. Coln is expected to take the oath of office during the board’s next meeting Tuesday morning. Coln grew up in the Strickland community and is a resident of County Road 259, just a couple of miles from where he
was reared. “I appreciate the board having the faith in me, and it’s an honor to serve,” he said. Coln, who was in the process of getting bonded on Friday, will serve until the winner of the Nov. 3 general election takes of-
fice at the beginning of January. “I just want to keep the Second District running,” he said. “I don’t want to make any big changes with the election coming in November.” Coln said he looks forward to meeting the people and would
like to help accomplish some of the things they want to be done, although he has been told funds are limited. He is retired after 26 years with the PCA Counce mill. He Please see COLN | 2
Liquor vote set for Tishomingo BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthia.com
IUKA — The Tishomingo County Board of Supervisors accepted a 1,600 signature petition on Friday which will add a liquor vote to an already crowded Nov. 3 ballot. “By law if enough signatures are submitted to the board and those signatures are certified, then we must hold an election,” said supervisor Brandon Grissom. “The law states an election must be held within 60 days of signature turn-in, which matches up with the November general election.” Board of Supervisors president Nicky McRae said by adding the liquor vote to the general election it would save the county around $14,000. “If this had happened at any other time, then we would have been forced to have a special election with only the liquor vote on the ballot,” said McRae. McRae said he was unsure of how the vote will read. “We do not know the language just yet,” he said. A Coalition for a Dry Tishomingo County member Tony Curtis presented the petition to the board at the Friday board meeting. He and his supporters are seeking to end the sale of liquor in the
