The search is over. Corinth police officers arrested a subject on a federal probation violation charge without incident Thursday afternoon. Rural Alcorn and Tishomingo County residents will soon have the option of a faster Internet service. Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley announced Thursday that Frontier Communications will be expanding broadband Internet service to rural areas in Mississippi resulting in 2,528 potential customers.

IUKA — Voters may soon get another chance to decide if they want to keep liquor on store shelves in Tishomingo County. A Coalition for a Dry Tishomingo County member Tony Curtis said he will present more than 1,500 certified signatures today at a meeting of

Hopewell church steps Iuka festival celebrates heritage, touts fun out for a cancer cure BY ZACK STEEN

Stepping out for a cure, the Woman-to-Woman Auxiliary of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church will host its 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17. The cost to participate is $20 per person and includes a t-shirt and a complimentary walk packet. T-shirts will be available in sizes youth small–XL. 2XL and 3XL can be purchased at an additional $1 or $2. All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation. Registration will be held at 7 a.m., followed by the 2-mile walk which will start and end at the church. Water, snacks and fruit will be provided. Those who would like a tshirt must register by no later than Thursday, Sept. 24. Open to everyone regardless of age and gender, the walk will honor survivors,

encourage those still fighting and pay tribute to those lost to the disease. “We want to have as many people as possible come and support the cause because this nasty disease can effect everyone and doesn’t discriminate,” said Hopewell Outreach Committee Member Sherika Guyton. “The walk is important to us because this particular disease has hit our Please see WALK | 6A

IUKA — The annual Iuka Heritage Festival will celebrate its 28th year this Labor Day weekend with a full slate of free and fun activities for all ages. Kicking off tonight with the worship themed Community Service music event at 6:30 p.m., the festival fun continues on Saturday at 8 a.m. with events taking place at both Jay Bird Park and Mineral Springs Park in downtown Iuka. According to festival committee member Sandra Medlin, Crossroads area residents will not want to miss this year’s festival. “This is Tishomingo County’s biggest and best festival offering,” said Medlin. “It is our official goodbye to summer and we will celebrate it with a bang.” On Saturday, festival happenings include the annual car show in Jay Bird Park and allday entertainment. “We have some great acts on Saturday playing a mix of music everyone will love,” Medlin said. “Entertainment will begin at 9:15 a.m. in Mineral Springs Park.”
