Ministry reaches out with website BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

Living Free Ministries has revamped its web presence. Corinth’s faith-based addiction recovery program dedicated to helping people with life controlling issues find freedom and healing through Jesus

Christ launched a new website at livingfreecorinth.com in August. “We are super excited,” founder Tommy Wilson said. “I think we have really been trying to catch up with the times and this new site really opens the door up for us.”

The website features sections that include information on how to get help from the ministry and how to volunteer. “Numbers show that 92 percent of those struggling with addiction will never go to a residential program,” Wilson said. “That opens the door for our

support groups and a strong website is a great way to reach people. It can be a place where those who don’t want to call or come see us can go and get all the facts about our program.” The site also offers weekly program times, upcoming events, past news and the story

of how Living Free began. A section titled, “Founders Testimony,” tells Wilson’s own personal story of addiction and recovery. “Just by putting my testimony online, I feel like it will reach Please see WEBSITE | 2

Things get kicked off with the cheer-off. The 5th Annual Alcorn County Fair gets under way Sept. 15 at the Crossroads Arena with countless girls dancing, tumbling and cheering.

“The cheer-off has truly been a kickoff event for us,” said committee member Danny Joe Turner. “How the cheeroff goes is usually how the fair goes.” Last year, 1,400 attended the cheer-off. “The place will be full that

night,” said Turner of the 6:30 p.m. exhibition. “It’s a fun event.” Northeast Mississippi Community College cheerleaders will be back at the popular cheer-off for a second consecuPlease see CHEER-OFF | 2

Passed by the Legislature last year, it was touted by the governor as a way to “ensure Mississippians continue to enjoy our state’s great outdoor heritage for years to come.” “Hunting supplies” are defined by the law as the following items when used for hunting: archery equipment, firearm and archery cases, firearm and Please see HOLIDAY | 2

Crossroads Museum seeking volunteers BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

The Crossroads Museum is seeking some volunteers to help with greeting visitors and staffing the gift shop. Facing a tight budget in the year ahead, Director Brandy Steen is putting out a call for people who appreciate history and would like to help support the depot museum. “We’ve got to cut costs,” said

Steen. “Using volunteers is one way we can do it.” The museum has a few parttime workers who help cover the weekends and a couple of other days. Volunteers are mainly needed for Tuesday and Friday museum hours, which are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No special skills or knowledge is needed. Please see MUSEUM | 2

Air Evac Life-team 58 plans open house to celebrate 10 years BY KIMBERLY SHELTON kshelton@dailycorinthian.com

Celebrating a decade of service to the tri-state area, Air Evac Life-team 58 of Corinth will host an open house/ reunion at its base. Slated to be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, the public is invited to join in on the festivities as flight nurses, paramedics and patients mark the special occasion. “We have many former crew members who will be returning,” said RN, CEN Gail Hudson.

“We ask that everyone come out, enjoy some great food, catch up with those they know and meet those they don’t.” Free to the community, the reunion will feature grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixings as well as t-shirts

and other giveaways. Providing access to definitive health-care for thousands who are medically under-served, Air Evac Life-team 58 has been caring for their neighbors and friends since September of 2005.

“The purpose of the event is not only to commemorate the founding of Air Evac 58, but also to celebrate a 10-year partnership with the hospital,” said former Head Nurse and Program Director Jay Chappelle who now serves as the regional director of base operations for 29 flight bases in Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Current and past crew members wish to thank Magnolia Regional Health Center as well as the community for their support.

“Thank you for making our first 10 years a success,” Hudson said. “We look forward to the next 10 years and hope to see everyone there.” “If we flew you or your family, be sure to come by and tell us,” she added. “Often times we don’t how our patients are fairing once they leave our care and would love to see each and every one of them.” (For more information contact Gary Johnson at 662-4153177. The base is located at 3704 Joann Drive.)
