Farmington officials propose tax hike BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

FARMINGTON — The City of Farmington is proposing a tax increase. Officials announced this week that the city will seek a 19

percent tax and millage rate increase for the upcoming 201516 fiscal year. If passed, it will be the first increase of its kind for Farmington residents in more than seven years. City Clerk Debbie Jackson

blamed the need for a tax increase on the increased cost of utilities, goods and services the city has been faced with in recent years. “Just like our citizens, everything is going up for the city,

said Jackson. “We have been fortunate not to have a tax increase since 2009, but everything is higher now. Jackson also said Farmington Police Department costs have increased.

“The police department receives approximately 285 calls for service each month, she said. “Services like this that are provided for the citizens of Please see TAX | 17

Unusual techniques create unique art Annual job fair offers

chance for changed lives

BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

When art professor Laquita Thomson wants to get creative, she’s looking for more than just the perfect landscape, sunset or Southern artifact. With the old photo process known as cyanotype, she casts deep blue hues on a fallen tree and other Southern scenes. With reduction linocuts, she captures peach blossoms and magnolias in one of Picasso’s favored techniques. She welcomes the “experimental label for her work. “I’m always trying something, said Thomson, a Corinth native. “It just so happens that most of the time I will hit on something that propels me. Her exhibit “Prints and Cyanotypes opens Sunday at the Corinth Artist Guild Gallery with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. It was previously exhibited at a gallery in Auburn, Ala.
