A program at two Alcorn County schools is providing parents with more options. A before and after school program was recently approved on the Kossuth Elementary School campus. A after school program is also offered at Alcorn Central Elementary. The before school program at KES coordinated by Linda Hatcher is offered to parents who need to drop their children off early before the school day begins. A after school program at KES and ACES allows children to remain supervised at school until parents can pick them up. Jeannie Anderson is the coordinator at ACES, and Principal John Anderson said the program is valuable for those parents who need it. âItâs perfect for parents who have work or other obligations that force them to have to drop off or pick up their children before or after normal school hours,â he said. Alcorn School District Elementary Curriculum Director Tammy Johnson said the two program coordinators arenât employed by the district.

âThese two individuals work for themselves through the school. They use the school facilities and each school office handles all applications and payment for the program,â said Johnson. Anderson said even though they arenât employed by the district, the individuals still had to meet credential requirements and background checks before being allowed to care for children. At KES, the before school program often begins at 5:30 Please see PROGRAM | 2A
