KOSSUTH — The Lady Aggies are moving. To a brand new complex. The KHS softball team will have an open house to unveil its new home tonight. Meet the Aggies is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Larry B. Mitchell Stadium followed by the unveiling of the softball addition at 7:30. The Lady Aggies new home includes an enclosed 63x63
indoor practice facility. A new dressing room area is 24x60 and has 37 player lockers. Two offices and a storage room are also part of the new complex. Kossuth’s old field house is now in use at Biggersville High School. “We have never had a place to practice during bad weather,” said KHS Head Coach Steve Lyles, who is entering his seventh season at the softball helm. “Now we can practice every day.”
BY STEVE BEAVERS Summer fun isn’t quite over for children. The Corinth Elks Lodge is making sure of it. The lodge is hosting its 2nd Annual End of Summer Kids Day Saturday from noon to 4:30 p.m. All kinds of games along with some inflatable fun houses will be available during the day. The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department will be on hand to share information about its DARE program. The Corinth Police Department is also scheduled to conduct free fingerprinting for children. “Doing things like this for the community is what the Elks Lodge is all about,” said lodge member Rusty Stephens. “Kids have just started back to school and Saturday will give them a chance to do

BY ZACK STEEN Alcorn School District board member Randy Wilbanks recently voted against the hiring of a new assistant principal at Alcorn Central High School. “With the way everything is with the district’s budget, I think we could really save some money if we didn’t hire anyone for assistant principal positions,” said Wilbanks. “I don’t want to Wilbanks see anyone who is currently an assistant principal lose their job, but as positions become open I think the district shouldn’t rehire.” Per the recommendation of ACHS Principal Brandon Quinn and Superintendent Gina Rogers Smith, the board voted 3-1 to hire new district

Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available. “We are hoping for a big day,” said Stephens. “We had around 60-70 come out the first year.” The Elks Lodge plays host to a hoop shoot every year. The lodge also holds fundraisers for St. Jude and Le Bonheur. The Corinth Elks Lodge was formed on June 15, 1906 with 39 charter members. In April 1978, the Elks Lodge instituted a new Lodge #2573 with a membership of 134. In May of 1979, the Lodge purchased the current building located at 1521 Robertson Drive.

Some assistant principals hold this position for several years to prepare for advancement to principal jobs; others are career assistant principals. In some school districts, they are primarily responsible for scheduling student classes, ordering textbooks and supplies, and coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services. They usually handle student discipline and attendance problems, social and recreational programs, and health and safety matters. Four schools in the school district do not have assistant principals — Alcorn Central Elementary School, Biggersville Elementary School, Glendale Elementary School and Rienzi Elementary School. Alcorn Career Technology Center also does not have an
assistant director. During the 2013-14 fiscal year, the district paid out $2,006,336 in salary and benefits for principals and assistant principals.
