Corinth police are looking for two suspects in the armed robbery of a gas station Monday night. It was reported at 11:34 p.m. at Buck’s at 3409 Highway 72. Detective Dell Green said two black men entered the store, one brandishing a silver handgun, and approached the clerk, demanding money. The clerk opened both registers and the suspects took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene. No one other than the clerk was present at the time. One suspect is estimated to be a little more than 6 feet tall and the other a little under 6 feet tall. The man carrying the gun was dressed in black and appeared to have a blue shirt wrapped around his face. Green said the other wore a black hoodie and gray pants and obPlease see SUSPECTS | 3A

Lighthouse celebrates changing lives BY BRANT SAPPINGTON bsappington@dailycorinthian.com

The Lighthouse Foundation is celebrating 20 years of changing lives. In 1993 a small group of men came together across racial and denominational lines to meet and pray about the problems they saw facing Corinth’s youth. The relationships forged in those early meetings grew and in May 1995 they put their prayers and visions into action and created the Lighthouse Foundation. The first event was a fishing trip for 114 children from the South Corinth community. “On that first event in May of 1995, 69 kids caught fish for the first time in their lives and 14 of them gave their lives to Jesus Christ. Debate continues on athletic block BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

Discussion of the Biggersville High School athletic block continued this week during the Alcorn School District Board of Education meeting. Last month, BHS girls and boys basketball coach Cliff Little asked the board to override a decision made by BHS Principal Chad Lindamood. The coach wanted the current student schedule changed to include two athletic blocks during a four-block day. After much discission on Monday, no action was taken and no change was made. Little commended Lindamood for making a change this year which allows one athletic block per day, however, Little said there is still room for improvement. “Right now both our boys and girls basketball teams must practice at the same time

or wait until after one group is finished. That is the challenge of having only one gym,” said Little. “In my mind, having both girls and boys practice in the same gym, at the same time, is not the best scenario. If one group waits until the other is finished, then it’s still almost six o’clock before they can leave practice. My problem is, there is no other school in the county with this issue.” Board member James Voyles said he worries about the co-ed practices. “My daughter played basketball for six years and graduated in 2012. If I knew she was practicing with boys, I would have been very uncomfortable,” he said. “I think they should have closed practices.” Little presented the board with information and schedules he had collected from Kossuth High School and AlPlease see DEBATE | 6A
