Alcorn School District weighs releases BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com
Out-of-district transfers continued to be a hot topic during the Alcorn School District board meeting on Monday night. Two of the 11 requested stu-
dent transfers from Alcorn School District to Corinth School District were denied during the meeting. When board president Mary Coleman attempted to lump all 11 transfer requests into one
vote, the motion died with lack of a second. Carroll Morton joined fellow board member Russ Nash to vote no on several transfers including one Kossuth Middle School student, who sighted
transportation as the reason for request to Corinth Middle School. “I have spoken with the parent and the student to try to resolve this problem, but they already had their mind set,” said
Superintendent Gina Rogers Smith. “They did ask if they had the option to come back into the district in the future.” That comment was the dePlease see RELEASES | 3A
Students receive computers Minors injured in rollover crash BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com
Three Corinth minors received injuries as a result of a one vehicle rollover wreck on Monday morning. The wreck occurred around 10:30 a.m., on MS Highway 350 near County Road 363 about three miles west of the Tennessee state line. According to Mississippi Trooper Joey Miller, the vehicle contained three minors -- a 16-year-old female, a 13-yearold female and a 12-year-old female. The 16-year-old was
driving the vehicle. Their names were not released. The 13-year-old female was the only passenger not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis where she remained overnight with several compression fractures of the back. The other two occupants were transported by EMS to Magnolia Regional Health Center and later released. Speed was not a factor in the wreck.

Even with the start of school less than 10 days away, several area childcare centers still have openings for new students. Corinth Alcorn Prentiss Pre-K Collaborative Project Director Tanya Nelson said two of the five childcare facilities still have room for children who will turn four on or before Sept. 1. “This is a unique opportunity for parents,” said Nelson. “Not only will they have the flexibility of a childcare center schedule, but they also have
access to a qualified teacher who will be working with their child throughout the day.” The two centers with openings include Kidz Kountry in Rienzi and Just Kids 1 in Farmington. “One of the major benefits of our childcare centers is the technology that will be available to students for the first time this year,” added Nelson. “Each center will receive several iPads for children to use during the day for instructional purposes.” The Collaborative also rePlease see CHILDCARE | 2A
