The 28th Annual Slugburger Festival kicks off tonight with the Midway, which opens at 6 p.m. The carnival, located in the clock parking lot at the corner of Fillmore and Cruise Streets, will feature a large selection of fun and fast rides for all ages provided by PBJ Happee Days. Event goers to the 28th Annual Slugburger Festival will be asked to please download the app. The new Visit Corinth mobile application is available to download by searching “Visit Corinth” on the iTunes or Google Play store, and the Corinth Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau plans to make it known during the upcoming busy festival weekend. “We are very pleased with the look of the app and how it works,” said Christy Burns, tourism executive director. “We are asking everyone -- visitors and locals -- to download the app, use it and let us know what they think.” The app features everything Corinth under categories that include Shop, Dine, Play and Stay. Another category, More, offers upcoming events, venues, catering, banking, medical, florists and more. Using GPS, the app can also identify the user’s location and, through the “Near Me” feature, will display the closest points of interest on an interactive map.

Piecemakers mark 10 years with ‘A Quilting Journey’ BY KIMBERLY SHELTON kshelton@dailycorinthian.com

Sewing up yet another successful project, the Cross City Piecemakers Quilt Guild is holding a special celebration in honor of their 10th Anniversary. Complete with a silent auction, refreshments, door prizes and other fun, guests will be taken on “A Quilting Journey” as they are treated to a delightful program in the auditorium of the Alcorn County Extension Office at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. Long time quilter, Anita Haddad from Florence, Ala. will deliver the 2015 Quilt Trunk Show Presentation which will encourage all quilters and show they are all on the same road to excellence. “In addition to our silent auction and other planned activities, we will also be selling chances on the star of our show,

our ‘30s Delight’ quilt,” said Guild President Gail Stables. “Chances will be $2 each or three for $5.” Constructed in some way by all 22 guild members from 1930s reproduction prints, the colorful quilt will be on display during the silent auction and the winner chosen next year. “We worked on it every morning during our meetings and it took us approximately 9 to 10 months to complete it,” said the president. “Each of us contributed in some way whether it was stitching, sewing on appliqués, or providing the fabric, lining or other materials.” The money raised will fund the guild’s many projects. “We participate in numerous projects each year,” said Stables. “Some of our Please see QUILTERS | 2
