The Alcorn School District will save around $38,000 by combining three bus routes. Director of Transportation Gary Johnson said he was able to combine three routes and still keep the route under one hour. “We have others that are over an hour, but none of these that
were able to combine,” he told the Board of Education during the June meeting. Johnson was also able to secure a $15,000 grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality towards the purchase of a new bus. The school board approved the spending of $66,925 on a Please see ROUTES | 2

The 2016 Slugburger Festival T-shirts arrived last week, and Main Street Director Brent Johnson says it’s the best design in years.
“It’s a fun watercolor design that’s actually based on a real photo taken from behind the stage and looking out across the festival,” he said. “It includes everything that makes the festival unique, including
the eating contest, entertainment and the Ferris wheel.” The event T-shirt is now available for purchase, some nine days prior to the start of

Workers with Corinth Gas & Water faced stormy conditions as they fixed a water main break on North Shiloh Road Monday afternoon. The blown water main near the Henderson Road intersection forced the closure of North Shiloh around 12:45 p.m. just
before heavy rain moved into the area. Traffic coming southbound was detoured onto Henderson, while traffic coming northbound had to turn around at Shiloh Ridge. Street Commissioner Philip Verdung was not sure if the Please see BREAK | 2

Library. Daniel took over the position in January after three years as assistant librarian. “I really like helping a broad range of people,” said the 31-year-old. “I love researching and learning new things, as well. Local history has also begun to fascinate me.” Daniel grew up in Iuka, but graduated from Corinth High School. “When I was at Ole Miss, I swore I would never move back home, but it has grown on me as I think it does for everyone who leaves home for a short time,” said Daniel. In his spare time, Daniel enjoys the occasional card or board game. He’s also a active member of Saint James Catholic Church in Corinth, where he recently started a weekly book discussion. “I share with the congregation a new devotional book we have at the library,” said Daniel. “I really enjoy that.”
