Supervisors adopt comments policy BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Citizens who wish to address the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors will face an expanded set of rules and requirements. The board on Monday adopted a revised policy on comments and presentations from the pub-
lic. Attorney Bill Davis recommended a more thorough policy in response to a situation at the prior meeting on June 6 when the board heard some stern comments from a citizen who was complaining about timber companies working in the county. The chief deputy, filling in for
the sheriff, intervened. Davis said the policy will help the board to “have a very consistent and orderly presentation of things at meetings. You could avoid situations where you had very large, tedious presentations that might be better in a different context.”
It could also help avoid issues that may not be appropriate to discuss, he said, or could be handled outside of a full board meeting. Landowner issues is one example of the latter. The policy requires a brief written statement identifying the substance of the presentation or
issue and a copy of all handouts, exhibits and supporting documentation to be presented. Groups are required to have a designated person to speak on their behalf. Only that person may address the board unless Please see COMMENTS | 6A

McNairy County board offered hospital facility BY JEFF YORK For the Daily Corinthian
SELMER, Tenn. — McNairy County’s Board of Commissioners will decide later this month whether to accept the gift of the Tennova Healthcare facility from Community Health Systems. The commissioners will make their decision during their meeting on Monday, June 27. CHS had owned the hospi-
tal in Selmer since acquiring it from Methodist Healthcare in 2003. Methodist had bought the county-owned facility in 1999. “We are finding out the hospital building is not in that bad of shape,” said McNairy County Mayor Ronnie Brooks. “The one big problem is the sewer in the basement of the building.” Please see HOSPITAL | 2A
People of the Crossroads Mayra Elizabeth Sosa Guzman, Corinth A resident since January of 2001, Los Angeles native Mayra Elizabeth Sosa Guzman found everything she wanted and more when she relocated to Corinth. “When my brother Tony described the small town he lived in where drivers wave as you go by and you never meet a stranger, I was skeptical. Once I arrived, I knew it would be my home. I love everything about Corinth. It’s clean, friendly and community oriented.” The 40 -yearold especially loves local events such as Green Market and Films on Fillmore. A 1993 graduate of Schurr High School in Montebello, California, Mayra is the wife of Lupe Sosa, the mother of Suzanne (Alex) Aguilar and the grandmother of two year-old Adrian Fernando Aguilar. She is currently employed as a Human Resources Generalist at Mississippi Silicon in Burnsville.

She is my spitfire,” she said. Located at 303 Fleming Street, in the old “Warehouse” bar just off Fillmore Street (behind Taylor Heating and Air), Shining Star offers recPlease see GYMNASTICS | 2A
