For the last several days, U.S. Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker have traveled the state holding campaign rallies from the small towns to the big cities across Mississippi. The two senators will make a stop in Corinth today for a special cookout rally at the Circle Y Equestrian Center on Wheeler Grove Road. This will mark the first time two senators have been in Corinth at the same time in recent memory. “We are honored that Sen. Cochran and Sen. Wicker decided to spend the last Saturday before the election in Corinth,” said Clayton Stanley, one of the many volunteer supporters who helped organize the event. “The cookout is free and open to the public.” Stanley said the playground will be open for families to en-
joy during the event. “We’re asking everyone to bring lawn chairs, as we expect several hundred people to attend,” he said. “This is really about reminding people to vote on Tuesday. We had a really sad turnout before, so we’re making sure we do everything we can this time.” Cochran and Wicker are slated to arrive in Corinth sometime after 4 p.m., when the cookout is scheduled to begin. Cochran finished second, behind state senator Chris McDaniel two weeks ago in the Republican primary. McDaniel was in Corinth on Friday night when he stopped by The Generals Quarter’s Inn for a meet and greet with supporters. The two are set to face each other in a run-off election on Please see SENATORS | 2
Coaching post among job openings in county schools BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com
The Alcorn School District is currently looking to fill several job openings before the 2014-15 school year begins in August.
The district is still accepting applications for the math teacher/head girls basketball coach at Biggersville High School. All applicants must hold a current Mississippi Teacher License
with a 154 (7-12) Math Endorsement. The position was the center of attention at a recent school board meeting. Parents and students showed support for
the hiring of current BHS boys basketball coach Cliff Little for the BHS girls basketball coach position. The supporters believed the school district should only be advertising for a math
teacher. The board is excepted to announce a decision about the position at the next regularly Please see SCHOOLS | 2
Play will share journey of God’s power BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
Nothing is too hard for God. Monica Sorrell is hoping to help others see how powerful the Lord is through her play “My Journey.” “God is still working miracles,” said Sorrell, a gospel recording artist. “My Journey” – slated for Saturday, August 30 at the Corinth Coliseum Civic Center – deals with the disappearance of Sorrell’s daughter, Ebonee Sanders in 2008. “You never know when you are
going to be on the other side,” said the writer of the play. “This is my way of helping others with similar problems.” Sanders was scheduled to do a gospel concert with her mother when she went missing in July of 2008. Despite the constant efforts of many, Sanders went unfound for three weeks. “You hear stories of people who never come back,” said Sorrell. “But we never gave up looking for her.” A phone call from a woman named Linda near Paducah, Kentucky began the process of
reuniting Sanders with her family. “We still don’t know how she ended up there,” added the mother. Sanders was found to have Multiple Sclerosis (MS) after being examined by a doctor following her return home. MS is a disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, resulting in loss of muscle control, vision, balance, and sensation such as numbness. “We all have our lives planned
