Alcorn correctional officer arrested BY MARK BOEHLER editor@dailycorinthian.com
A correctional officer with the Alcorn County Regional Correctional facility has been terminated from the position and remained under arrest for conspiracy to bring contraband into the prison. Alcorn County Sheriff Ben
Caldwell identified the officer as 43-year-old Tonya Lynn Seago of Pinecrest Street in Corinth. She remained jailed Wednesday in the county jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond set. She was arrested about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and was terminated from her employment with the facility,
said Caldwell. The felony charge is conspiracy to introduce contraband into a correctional facility, according to the sheriff. Seago was in communication with an inmate to bring a cellphone into the prison, said Caldwell. The officer had been employed
with the facility since January. Caldwell promised to clean up the regional prison during his campaign last year. Seago is the second correctional officer arrested since he took office in January. “We are not going to tolerate this kind of behavior,” said Caldwell. Seago

The Crossroads area will see it’s first dangerously hot day on Thursday. According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures in Corinth and Alcorn County will reach near 100 degrees. “Thursday’s forecast calls for a high near 96 in the Corinth area,” said NWS. “It will be sunny as well, with a slight 20 percent chance of thunderstorms late in the day. Heat Advisory Warnings were issued throughout the Midsouth and the heat index in Corinth is expected to reach well over 105 degrees on Thursday. With the threat of extremely hot weather, the Mississippi Department of Health issued ways to avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke when outdoors. Heat exhaustion is a milder form of heat-related illness that can develop after long exposure to high temperatures and inadequate water. Those most prone to heat exhaustion are elderly people, people with high blood pressure and people working or
exercising in a hot environment. Warning signs of heat exhaustion include heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting and fainting. Also the skin may be cool and moist, the victim’s pulse rate will be fast and weak and breathing will be fast and shallow. If heat exhaustion is untreated, it may progress to heat stroke. The victim should seek medical attention immediately if symptoms are severe, if the victim has heart problems or high blood pressure. Otherwise, help the victim to cool off, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen or last longer than one hour. If signs of a heat exhaustion are present then the victim should drink cool water or nonalcoholic beverages, rest, take a cool shower, get into an air-conditioned room or change into lightweight clothing. Heat stroke occurs when the body’s temperature rises rapidly, the sweating mechanism fails Please see HEAT | 6

was a hit among many in the ministry field. “Duane Blue is one of the most transparently real followers of Jesus Christ I personally know,” said Don Cass, Director of Evangelism, The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, when the book was published. “This book needs to be put in the hands of the worst sinners and read by the self-righteous pretender who is blinded by the evil one.” Motorcycles and drugs consumed Blue’s life from the age of 16-21. He had no regard for others with pride and grief causing him to hide free from his feelings of loneliness and grief. “I hated school, teachers and authority,” said Blue. “The only thing that mattered to me was me.” “Call Me Blue” details how a lying, cheating, lonely drug-
