County searching for two jail escapees BY L.A. STORY lastory@dailycorinthian.com
IUKA — The Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Department is searching for two escaped inmates driving a stolen pickup truck. According to a report from the TCSD, two Mississippi Depart-
ment of Corrections inmates escaped at approximately 1 a.m. Wednesday from the Tishomingo County Jail. The inmates, who have been identified as Jonathan Dakota Hamm, 26, and Issac Lenan Bennett, 23, were spotted by a corrections office while doing a
perimeter check outside of the facility. The report stated the inmates were able to force an outside door open. Once outside, officials believe they scaled the fence and it appeared one of the inmates may have received a cut from the fence.

A Corinth man received lifethreatening injuries during a collision Tuesday evening. According to a report from the Corinth Police Department, the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. when a 2002 yellow, Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Bradley Sanders, 43, of Corinth, collided with a 1999 gray, Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Jerry Doles, 68, of Parsons, Tenn. The report states Sanders’ vehicle was traveling east-
bound in the inside lane on U.S. Highway 72. Doles’ vehicle was stopped at the exit of Virginia Lane, waiting to make a left turn onto U.S. Highway 72 to travel westbound. Doles’ vehicle pulled out onto U.S. Highway 72 and started to head westbound, according to the report, and Sanders tried to avoid hitting Doles and went into the center turn lane. Audit: School district remains financially sound BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com
The Corinth School District is financially sound, according to their latest audit. School board members were presented the findings from the 201516 audit last week and the results were all positive. “Our expenses went down and our revenues went up,” said Finance Director Casey Palmer. “This is mainly due to grants and a small increase in property taxes.” Brandon firm Fortenberry & Bal-
lard was in Corinth in January to complete the audit. “This was our first year with them and they did what they needed to do to make sure everything was accurate,” said Superintendent Lee Childress. “Casey and the ladies in this office and in the schools all do a great job. It’s because of their hard work that we have a report like this.” Palmer said the district’s long term debt went down 1 percent. “We were able to pay some things off,” she added. dent enrollment in the district increased by 15 percent. The audit also said the district had “strong community support” and no material weakness in internal control. “We received a unmodified report audit opinion, which is good,” said Palmer. “Our financial statements were appropriately presented.” The board agreed to hire Fortenberry & Ballard to continue providing the district with financial audit services for the 2016-17 and 2017-
