Officials unsure what caused Selmer tragedy BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com
SELMER, Tenn. — Officials are still unclear what exactly caused an elderly driver to plow through a crowded festival on Saturday, killing a Corinth businessman and his fianceé. Lt. Brad Wilbanks of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the investigation as to what happened continues. “Understand, on this type of
crash, I’ve heard seven or eight different stories,” Wilbanks said. “We owe it to the families to get the facts right. It will take weeks to get this together, and we want to be able to answer any and all questions the families might have. That’s what takes so long.” Pronounced dead at the scene were 62-year-old Michael L. Johnson of Selmer and 51-yearold Sherri R. Duncan of Hen-
derson. Johnson was owner of The Hot Rod Shop, LLC. in Corinth. The accident happened early Saturday afternoon at the Rockabilly Highway Revival Festival in downtown Selmer. City officials were granted the OK to shut down Court Avenue, the “main drag” through the city. Barricades were placed Please see TRAGEDY | 2A

After struggling with infertility for years, Megan and Russ Johnson decided it was time to seriously consider adoption. “At first, I just became curious,” said Megan who began researching on her own and asking questions to those she knows who’ve adopted. “Over the course of several months, God began to change my heart. We did not choose adoption as Plan B, it became our new Plan A. “God knew the desires of our hearts long before we knew them,” she continued. “I had a family friend who worked with Bethany Christian Services for years. I didn’t know anyone who had used Bethany. So, I was slow to start there, but after asking her questions, I gradually made my way to filling out a preliminary application. Once the orientation meeting and trainings began, Me-
