Corinth moves toward school foundation BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
As classroom practices continue to evolve beyond the conventional, the Corinth School District is beginning to move toward establishing a foundation that would financially support innovative ideas for the district. Since launching its eMerge technology initiative a couple of years ago, the district has seen
the need for a Foundation for Excellence in Education. The district’s board of trustees on Thursday voted in support of the concept and gave the nod to proceed. It would be intended to finance projects that are beyond the scope of the existing support groups like PTOs and booster clubs and for things that may run into statutory roadblocks in terms of funding.
Groups would be able to pitch ideas to the foundation. The ideas should come from within the schools, “not from here at this office, or from just one or two people,” said Superintendent Lee Childress. “It’s got to come from within, and it’s got to be innovative. It’s not to buy 500 books for the library. It’s got to be something Please see FOUNDATION | 2A
“We’ve got a lot of children that don’t have anybody to support them. This would be an opportunity for people in the public that want to do that. We think there are numerous organizations that will help us.” Dr. Lee Childress Corinth School District Superintendent

Local author accepts challenge, writes ‘The Gifted’ BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
GLEN — L.A. Story was up for the challenge. The result was her first full length novel. Story, a former Daily Corinthian staff writer/columnist, accepted the test from her sister and fellow author, BJ Hyman, late last year. “She asked me to do the National Novel Writing Month (NANOWRIMO) challenge in November,” said Story.
The project is held annually with writers from around the world taking the challenge of writing a 50,000-world novel in a month. Story produced “The Gifted: Adversaries & Healers” less than a year after taking on the challenge. Story “I had been toying with the idea for the book for several years,” said the author. “I knew I would have to rewrite
it since I had lost the digital copies a long time of ago.” The idea of producing a novel in a month was scary to the writer. “My sister was going to do it and we really wanted to take the journey together,” said Story. Hyman’s printing is called “Day Zero: The Book of Patrick.” Billed as a romance/fantasy/
supernatural production, “The Gifted” is about a girl named Rachel Hannah who becomes fascinated with a mysterious stranger in town. “The fascination appears to be mutual and they fall in love during a whirlwind romance,” said Story. “Rachel is so trusting she never suspects the truth.” Rachel’s love interest, Sage, turns out to be an Adversary – a race of humans who have Please see STORY | 3A
