Town celebrates 20th birthday BY L.A. STORY lastory@dailycorinthian.com

FARMINGTON — City officials plan an informal “birthday party” celebrating community history as well as a bright future. An 20th birthday party will be hosted at Farmington Town Hall beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The “birthday” in question is the 20th anniversary since the City of Farmington was reincorporated on May 23, 1997. Mayor Dale Fortenberry said all members of the Farmington community are invited. Light refreshments will be served and the mayor hopes this will be an opportunity for everyone to have a good time and meet and greet their fellow community members and take

a look back at what has been accomplished in the City of Farmington, as well as look forward to what is still yet to come. Fortenberry said they are inviting all the former officers, aldermen and the former mayor to attend. The mayor for the first eight years was Ray Hughes, who served until 2005, when he decided not to run for re-election. Fortenberry, who had served as an alderman since 2001, ran for the the office and was elected. He expressed hopes all the Farmington officials, both past and present, will come to the celebration. “It’s going to be very informal. There won’t be any long, drawn out Please see BIRTHDAY | 3
