Academy responds to allegations BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

North Corinth Christian Academy says it has responded appropriately to the allegations against the school’s former principal.

Michael Shane Casabella, 37, of County Road 282, Iuka, lost his position as principal around May 2015. “Allegations had surfaced and he was immediately terminated,” said Nick Bain, attorney

for the school. A grand jury returned three indictments containing a range of charges — three counts of fondling, two counts of sexual battery, one count of computer luring and three counts of ex-

ploitation of a child, according to court records. Three different minors are specifically named as victims in the indictments. In one of the indictments, he is accused of inappropriately

Glendale hosting final tour BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com

The governor has signed into law a bill that allows Alcorn County to contract with other jurisdictions to house additional inmates. Senate Bill 2958 was signed last week and became effective immediately. The local and private legislation was requested to assist the county as it looks for additional revenue sources to improve the financial situation of the regional correctional facility. It allows the county to contract with the federal government, any state or political subdivision for the housing of offenders who are classified as minimum or medium security and who do not have a history of escape. The law specifically prohibits maximum security offenders. The Mississippi Department of Corrections is supplying the minimum number of inmates, 240, allowed in its contract

GLEN — Community members will get a chance this weekend to tour the purple hallways of Glendale Elementary School before the doors are closed. Set to coincide with the Glen Heritage Day Festival, an open house at GES is slated for Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon. Principal Elizabeth Wamsley said it will be both a celebration of the school’s history and an opportunity for people to say goodbye. “The open house idea was derived from the numerous requests I have recently received from community members who wanted to visit the school one last time,” said Wamsley. “Due to safety constraints, we could not allow an open walk-through for visitors while school was in session with children present.” The principal added, “knowing how important this school has been to our community, we absolutely wanted to honor the requests and allow people the opportunity to tour the school

Col. Jay Fisher was on a mission in his return home. The vice commander of the 14th Flying Wing, Columbus Air Force Base spoke at a joint meeting of the Corinth Rotary, Civitan and Kiwanis clubs on Tuesday.

Fisher, a career officer with 24 years experience in the Air Force, had two objectives in speaking before a large group at Pizza Grocery. “You would be surprised at the number of people who didn’t know what we do at the base,” he said. “One thing I wanted people to see was

As the owner, director and teacher at Kid Kountry Daycare in Rienzi, Mitzi Potts’ days are busy and hectic. For the past 22 years she has left an imprint in the lives of around 250 children ages 2-5. “I enjoy seeing children learn and grow and hearing about how they’ve become successful in their lives,” she said. The Pre-K certified daycare facility is licensed for 21 children and is open year round. Betty Michael also teaches there. Potts’ parents, David and Joy Massey, live next door. “I couldn’t make it without their support, and the main credit goes to God.” Potts and her husband, Ronnie, enjoy riding horses. She teaches a Sunday School class at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Playing in the hills and valleys of northeast Mississippi during those growing up years, my imagination allowed me to fight in every war that our history books have recorded. Just as those timeless pages described, victory after victory came and with each battle as I fought courageously in my young mind. Still there was a greater desire to do more than just “pretend”, I wanted more than anything else to be a soldier. – An excerpt from “Snoop” by Dr. Chester Wayne Harrison.
