Native son brings flag home to Corinth BY ZACK STEEN zsteen@dailycorinthian.com
Covered in a black sheet, standing tall and shadowing over the crowded auditorium at the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center was the 11th Mississippi Infantry Regimental Flag.
More than 155 years later, it had made it back home. Donated to the center by Corinth native Ambassador John Palmer, the flag was once in a California auction house awaiting its next owner. “An auctioneer in Los An-
geles called me and told me a group in Oxford was trying to buy this old Mississippi flag,” said Palmer with a smile. “He asked me if I wanted it, and I said ‘yeah’.”

Oklahoma native Rachel Winters always knew she wanted to be a park ranger. “I went to a state park when I was a little kid. There was a really nice ranger there who was really fond of me,” said Winters. “I knew then what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.” The 30-year-old took a job with the National Park Service right out of college and soon landed at the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center. In Corinth for the past seven years, Winters even visits state and national parks while on vacation. “I actually worked at another park in South Carolina last year -- while on vacation,” she said with a smile.
